Divided Opposition pays tribute to late Eileene L. Parsons OBE

Parsons, aka Miss P’, who passed away on June 22, 2025, at the age of 94, was once a member of the National Democratic Party (NDP) but left the party to support the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) led by Ronnie W. Skelton (AL). Following the merger of the PVIM and NDP, Ms Parsons pledged her support to the Alliance and often hosted its radio shows.
And it seems not even Ms Parsons' death could unite the two Opposition entities, even if it was just for a moment.
Ms Parsons championed the soul of our islands- NDP
The NDP paid tribute via its Facebook page, saying, “We honour the legacy of Eileene L. Parsons, a true cultural guardian and political trailblazer of the Virgin Islands. From her passionate advocacy for the arts to her groundbreaking role in politics, Ms Parsons championed the soul of our islands with unwavering dedication.”
The party also highlighted that her voice shaped policy, her heart preserved our culture, and her passing represents a profound loss for every Virgin Islander. Nonetheless, her legacy will forever resonate across the Virgin Islands and in our hearts.
The NDP, whose legislators include Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) and Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL), further thanked Ms Parsons for her life of service, spirit, and strength.
‘National Treasure’
The Alliance, in its statement, expressed profound sorrow at the passing of Ms Parsons, who was described as a national treasure of the Virgin Islands.
The statement remarked, “With deep respect and heartfelt remembrance, we pay tribute to her extraordinary life and enduring legacy.”
According to the Alliance, Ms Parsons was a remarkable stateswoman, cultural icon, and fearless advocate for the people of the Virgin Islands.
Throughout her long and distinguished career, Ms Parsons embodied the spirit of public service and civic responsibility. She broke barriers, shattered ceilings, and stood as a resolute champion for progress, culture, and good governance.
The Alliance noted, “As a legislator, she brought tenacity and intellect to the halls of the House of Assembly. In her role as Minister of Education and Culture, she passionately preserved our heritage while laying the foundation for future generations. This loss is deeply felt.”
Furthermore, it was acknowledged that Ms Parsons was not only a political leader but also a force of nature. Her voice, the Alliance said, resonated with clarity, courage, and conviction.
“Whether speaking in the Legislative Council, in front of a classroom, or on a cultural stage, she conveyed an undeniable love for the Virgin Islands and a fierce dedication to justice, education, and truth.”
The Alliance legislators consist of Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6), Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) and Hon Stacy R. Mather (AL).
