Diverse group successfully complete Comprehensive Workforce Readiness Training

This training welcomed a diverse group of seventeen participants, reflecting a range of ages and backgrounds, all eager to enhance their employability.
The curriculum was meticulously crafted to focus on crucial soft skills, including effective communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, as well as more technical skills such as interview techniques, resume writing, and financial management.
Additionally, the sessions provided essential insights into the Virgin Islands Labour Code, 2010, and the workings of the Labour Management System, fostering a well-rounded understanding of both local labour laws and workforce expectations.
Acting Commissioner of Labour Mr Mervin D. Hasting expressed his gratitude to the participants for their enthusiasm and commitment to learning.
He emphasised the importance of this training by stating, “This type of workshop equips Virgin Islanders and Belongers with the essential soft skills needed not only to secure employment but also to grow and thrive within the workforce.”
Distinguished facilitators
The training featured a lineup of distinguished facilitators, including Mrs Vionie Pickering, the Director of Product at the BVI Tourist Board; Mrs Natalie N. Lake Penn, the Standards Manager at the BVI Tourist Board; and Mrs Atritia Perrera, the Chief Financial Officer at the BVI Tourist Board. Other notable contributors included Ms Stephanie Sylvester, Head of People at Necker Island, Ms Kadian Ferguson from HIRE BVI, along with several dedicated officers from the Department of Labour, each sharing their expertise in specific areas.
Participants engaged in dynamic, hands-on activities designed to reinforce their soft skills through practical application.
The training emphasized teamwork, communication, and workplace etiquette in real-world scenarios, allowing attendees to build confidence in their abilities.
By the end of the four-day program, participants reported significant improvements in their self-confidence, refinement of their interview techniques, and a much clearer understanding of how to create impactful resumes tailored to attract potential employers.
