Director of Communications Karia J. Christopher passes
Mrs Christopher, who was part of the Virgin Islands delegation that recently travelled to London for the Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) and other activities, passed away this morning, December 5, 2025.
The daughter of the Virgin Islands' soil and cancer survivor had first risen to popularity in the media space with her show, "Real Talk," where she interviewed personalities from all walks of life.
Communications Expert
She had acted in the post of Director of Communications since 2023 and was confirmed in August of this year.
Mrs Christopher held a Bachelor's and Master's of Science Degrees, and had a progressive career in the public service, including holding the post of Sister Islands Coordinator and the Director of Human Resources and Administration at the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC).
She was especially effective as the lead communications expert for the Joint Ministerial Council (JMC) in London, delivering real-time updates and ensuring transparency on key discussions between the UK government and Overseas Territories.
She was expected to moderate today's press conference featuring Premier Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), Deputy Premier Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3), Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5), and Junior Minister for Financial Services and Economic Development Hon Lorna G. Smith, OBE (AL).
The press conference scheduled for 2:00 PM has since been "cancelled".
The Management and Staff of Virgin Islands News Online express sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the late Karia J. Christopher.

Let us enjoy today, now, the next hour is not promised. Let us reach out to our families and friends and others. Show and tell them while they are alive how much we love them. Please do not wait until times like these to hold long ceremonies filled with words that are no longer useful to the departed.
Every time someone passes away you dumb @$$#$s start with the assumption. DUMB @$$#@, NOT EVERYONE THAT PASSES AWAY TOOK THE VACCINE. AND IF THEY DID, THAT WAS THEIR DAMN CHOICE. ANOTHER THING, YOU ALL NEED TO STOP BEING INTRUSIVE IN PEOPLE LIVES BY ASKING THEM IF THEY TOOK THE VACCINE. THAT IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.
Karia changed the formula- on conversations with others by us- truthfully and proudly!
A dominating host in her own right but a treasured Virgin Islander who brilliantly and humbly walked softly and carried a big stick - whose aura preceded her from a distance to which many watching some never meeting her personally valued her approved to advance perceptions of VI Life; others just simply saw how she developed her brand and admired the passion in her voice and the reasoning behind her advocacy and unbridled style and pride for VI was served in Wit and love.
An authentic professional whose synergy connected listeners to a story and whose style had pizzazz despite that engaging quiet nature Karia Exuded a kindhearted classiness not classism; which is a testament of her dynamism to walk and chew gum at the same time - enriching us and making VI better; impressively felt via her grinding and ground working.
I hoped that VI understands the importance of embracing talent over xenophobia and truly just start appreciating one another - this is a gigantic loss for our Virgin Islands as the agency she gave many brought people a sense of belonging and others a seat at the table - this loss is extremely hitting home at how fragile we all are and to just let people know what they mean to the family, to the community, and to the life we are hoping to share together whether we see eye to eye
KC is a stakeholder in Our VI fabric. we are bound to continue the quilting for our story - woven together by threads, carrying the shared dreams that heal not hurt, that help not harm, that forge friendships and forgive; she’s been doing her part - you must do yours with no excuses till the very end. Karia can no longer carry us.
Heartfelt sympathy to her love ones and for so many at home and abroad this will be causing us to pinch ourselves in real time because this is a hard blow for VI on the whole.
Again Our Community Is Sadly In Mourning - Together
This beautiful bougainvillea flower brilliantly planted and generously living gave us the best of herself and to some of you who seem to live under a Rock let the Islands get to see you in full earnestness with your colorful and blooming giving; particularly if public service calls you - women you got work to do!
Host, KC - Gone too too soon
Let this be a moment of introspection to those who travelled and worked closely with Karia, a most special person and excellent at her job, especially those who travelled with her this past week. She loved family fiercely. She was effusive, energetic, full of life and today she has gone to her rest. Excessive parties, travel and drinking and carousing is not what we need in this country. We need to seek Jesus Christ who died that we should have everlasting life.
My heartfelt condolences to her family, her husband and children and mom and siblings. Such a difficult time. God is able. He will see you through.
WOW!!!
What an inspiring human being she was!
Soo, so funny, and joyous!
Just a beauty to behold!
Such, such, the saddest news of the day!
Just shut up.
A life was lost, our sister is gone..by the grace of God give her peace at the end.
If you cant just send your condolences, please, don't say anything
As a person, she was a kind loving and respectful lady, proud of who she was and where she came from, as we all should be.
Fly away young lady. Smile down on us from on high.
Keep watch over your family
