ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Excitement is building up for the Royal British Virgin Islands Yacht Club’s Annual Dinghy Championships to be hosted by Nanny Cay from May 16 to 18, 2014.

This year, in the quest to find the funding needed to make the Youth Sailing Development Programme successful year round and sustain the growth achieved over the past few years, organisers are pushing to encourage greater community support of the BVI Dinghy Championships at Nanny Cay.

This is the Flagship Event of the Youth Programme and a showcase of the racing achievements rewarded by the hard working coaches and kids all year long.

The event’s organiser, namely Royal BVI Yacht Club with collaboration of Nanny Cay, Bounce, along with all the sponsors, have organized a special BVI Dinghy Champs Lounge Bar which will be set up on the deck at Nanny Cay from Friday May 16, 2014 to Sunday May 18, 2014 and have all proceeds directed 100% back at the youth programme development.

The funds raised go directly toward the salaries of the coaches and the maintenance of the fleet of boats, making it possible for them to maintain sailing classes at prices below one half of most countries’ programmes.

If they are not, they only have themselves to blame. All this talk of what should be the national sport - take a look around, this is where BV Islanders should be experts.

Uncle needs to be in this. With all his experience "commandeering" dinghies, he should be able to compete well in this.
