ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Digicel and Tortola Pier Park Limited are ensuring that tourists visiting the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park will have access to world-class connectivity, thanks to a new state-of-the-art Wi-Fi system to be installed in the facility.

Tortola Pier Park Ltd (TPPL) launched a Request for Service to have a Wi-Fi system installed in Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park.

After reviewing proposals from several telecommunications providers, Digicel rose to the top and was awarded the project contract.

Digicel’s proposal included setting up the entire system at no cost to Tortola Pier Park Ltd, and a revenue-share agreement whereby revenue collected from tourists will generate a continuous stream of revenue for TPPL.

According to a press release from Digicel today, October 26, 2021, Mara Samaniego, Chief Executive Officer, said: “At Digicel, we’re all about connecting people with the things they love most, whether it’s loved ones, entertainment or social media to share moments and keep memories alive. As tourists, you want to be able to document and share your journey with friends and family, which is why we are proud to have won the bid to provide Wi-Fi at Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park.

“Our team worked hard on the proposal, so this selection validates the work we put in, and is another step forward on our Digital Operator journey to provide our customers with simply more.”

Wi-Fi system will be ready by Feb 2022

Digicel said it will pay for, install and manage the new Wi-Fi system for Tortola Pier Park Ltd and the project is expected to be ready by February 2022.

In order to use the system, tourists log in to a portal where they can then pay to access the internet.

“Digicel Business continues to offer innovative products and services, and provide the British Virgin Islands with the latest technology to upgrade and support Tourism Sector services,” the press release concluded.

Not a good ,wifi is free most places you go around the world. Try something different. The last time I went on a cruise in 2019 wifi was FREE ON BOARD.

When are you going to work on your existing system, so that residents can get a proper working service? Your prices are high, but the service is less than sh***y.

Yep. This would be bigger news if it was announcement about working internet being set up across the territory rather than just a bit of window dressing at the Pier Park to make the tourists think we aren't third world

Visitors to the territory get the best while those of the territory get the worst. Nice work for the people of the VI.

Why aren’t we working to provide better connectivity to people who live here instead? Whatever gets installed at PP will soon be obsolete (just like all tech). Lack of Wifi access to day visistors isn’t exactly going to be a deal breaker.
