ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A minute to grab just as much groceries as he could fit into his trolley, Joel Dinerman kicks off from the word go and hardly recognizes the fresh vegetables and fruits as he blazes past for the meat section - ham, turkey, beef are all on his mental list- he then moves on to another location and gets in a few more groceries before time is up but by that time he had done very well on the opening day of the Digicel/Riteway Supermarket Sweep held at Riteway, East End on March 14, 2012.

According to Digicel, the promotion where lucky Digicel and Riteway customers win chances to grab groceries from the supermarket shelves in an allotted time, is back by popular demand and each week, three finalists will be selected and the trolley dash will be held at different Riteway locations, including Fine Foods, Road Reef and over on Virgin Gorda.

Two shoppers will also be chosen from a list of customers who have bought a Digicel phone, topped up $15 or more or paid their bills in full and on time, while the other will be selected on the evening of the event from among eligible Riteway customers.

Dinerman happenedd to be shopping at Riteway that lucky evening and said he always shop there because of its location to where he lives. He was able to pack his trolley with some $558 in items and was easily the most successful shopper. “I am a meat eater and so I went for that,” a smiling Dinerman told the media.

Trinidadian Gyasi Wells, who was in the Territory as an exhibitor for the Caribbean Arts and Crafts Festival, purchased a Digicel phone and also won himself a chance to shop. He was able to help himself to some $204 in items, which included a cake, which he said was for a special someone. He also said he always uses the Digicel network wherever he travels in the Caribbean.

Another lucky shopper Lesroy Simmons made his rounds around the Riteway Supermarket and was able to pack some $289 in groceries. He said he has been a Digicel customer for five years and also that the Riteway store in East End was a “great’ store to shop at.

The media was also given an opportunity to whisk around the store for the 1-minute duration and did not hesitate to help themselves to quite a few items. Cameraman Leroy Watson of JTV arrived at the finish with a loaded trolley that amounted to $333 in cash, which made him the second most successful shopper.

First launched in December 2010, six finalists walked away with over $20,000 in Riteway groceries, BlackBerry smartphones and Digicel credit,” recalled Digicel CEO Alan Bates. “Since then, we have constantly had a number of people come up to and ask ‘When are you having Supermarket Sweep again’ or ‘Are you bringing back Supermarket Sweep’.”

Bates said Digicel is responding to these requests and providing another opportunity for everyone to win with Digicel. Fifteen winners will receive either $1,000, $750 or $500 n grocery vouchers, based on the amount of groceries they can grab, according to a press release.

“Road Town Wholesale is again pleased to partner with Digicel to stage another Supermarket Sweep,” stated Managing Director Simon Potter. “We are also still receiving very positive feedback about the one held in Christmas of 2010 and we are anxious to repeat this success.”

For a chance to enter and win, everyone is encouraged to become a Digicel customer, top up $15 or more or pay their Digicel bill in full and on time and also shop at Riteway Food Markets.

Two charities will also benefit from this event, which will be broadcast on radio and television.
