Digicel fans brave heavy rains to support 4G launch
The communications giant hosted a festive gathering opposite its flagship store on Waterfront Drive. The event featured a line-up of local artistes, who were well received by the crowd.
Fans were first entertained by steel pan music for some time as they mingled with each other and enjoyed some of the food and beverages on offer at the parking lot opposite the store. There was also lots of Digicel merchandise being given away throughout the programme including caps, pens, cups and other Digicel branded items.
Treasures of the BVI then followed as they whet the appetite of the crowd with energetic dances while being adorned in brightly coloured headdresses. They were followed by saxophonist Jeremy Vanterpool, who gave some of his signature renditions to the growing crowd.
Just as the crowd continued to build, a heavy downpour came that saw everyone scampering for shelter under the tents provided by Digicel. In spite of the heavy rains, the music continued and the moko jumbies entertained, clad in bright red and white outfits, as they swayed high up in the air in time to the music coming from the stage.
Digicel also held a song competition during the evening that saw three local lads competing for the title of Digicel Brand Ambassador for one year. The artistes were Meesach, N’Jar and Kerell. Kerell eventually emerged victorious after persons were asked to text their favourite performer to 1691 on the Digicel network.
There was also a dance off during the show between three ladies that saw one of them wining a Blackberry Torch while the second place winner won a US$100 top-up for her phone.
