Digicel+ debuts its $3.5M 'Superfast Fibre' on Tortola
"With a promise of simply more power, more speed and more reliability, backed by an investment of US$3.5 million to connect every household and business in Tortola, Digicel is ensuring that the people of the British Virgin Islands can stay connected to the world, and get greater entertainment options thanks to its new fibre network," the company said in a statement.
Digicel said the network build will continue until September 2022, with service expansion happening in new areas on a weekly basis as the build progresses.
"During May, Huntum’s Ghut, Lower Estate, Horse Path, Long Bush, Blyden Yard and Georges Hollow will be among the first locations to receive service, and once the fibre network is completed, Digicel will be able to serve an estimated 6,000 homes in Tortola, along with an additional 2,000 businesses," it said.
38% of households served in VG - Digicel BVI CEO
Digicel BVI CEO, Mara Samaniego, commenting on the expansion, said, “We are excited to bring Digicel+ to Tortola. We are already serving 38% of households in Virgin Gorda and we know that our customers are very satisfied with the service and speeds that we are delivering."
"We have recently increased the speeds in every package (making us up to 2x faster than our competitor) so we are starting at 250Mbps for our launch in Tortola. I am proud to present blazing fast speeds, greater reliability and consistency and more opportunity to Tortola. I know they are going to love being part of a fibre fast future,” Samaniego added.
Digicel added that Digicel+ representatives will be visiting areas starting from May 2, 2022, to sign up customers to a fibre future.
