Digicel BVI holds Data Village
Digicel BVI Commercial and Operations Director Mr Kevin C. Smith was on hand to explain the reasons behind the event and spoke to Virgin Islands News Online.
“We decided to do a Digi Data Village which is essentially to talk to our customers about data. We noticed that sometimes when we send out information on data people don’t know what data really is,” he said.
“When you explain to them data on their phone it is a more relevant message. When you explain to them the benefits data it is a more relevant message,” he said.
Explaining the concept of having the event in the evening, he said, “In this environment we are meeting the public in an informal setting rather than the public coming to the store.”
“They can interact with us about anything, ask questions about their smartphone…what happened if you are prepaid and you see your credit ran down? Some customers say it has something to do with the network but it is actually the smartphone apps updating while the phone is sitting [idle] and taking money from your account,” he said.
“We are explaining those things…how to put the apps to manual so that this does not happen. We are showing them how to activate data plans,” he said.
“These data villages are only going to get better as we go along and as we perfect what we are doing now. This is the first one,” he said, noting that there were bilingual staff on hand to cater to anyone from the Dominican Republic or other Spanish speaking country.
Recently unveiled as being sponsored by Digicel, the Razor Blades Band charmed the crowd later in the evening with a selection of their most popular fungi music.
