Did Governor Rankin lie about not knowing of DEA sting for Hon Fahie?
Published on Monday, September 26, 2022, a podcast by Tortoise Media, a UK media house entitled 'Paradise Bust: Scandal in the British Virgin Islands', has explored and sought to find answers on what British Government officials knew about the drug sting operation that led to the arrest of Hon Fahie in Miami.
Miami Arrest on April 28, 2022
On April 28, 2022, Governor Rankin in a press statement revealed he was informed that then Premier Fahie was arrested in Miami.
“It is my duty as Governor to inform you that this morning the Honourable Premier Fahie was detained in Miami on charges related to conspiracy to import a controlled substance and money laundering,” Governor Rankin shockingly disclosed.
The Governor in the statement said the arrest was concerning that of a British citizen and that the US Government has informed the UK Government, as part of the usual process followed when a British citizen is arrested abroad. He said the UK Government subsequently informed him as Governor.
However, the then Premier was not an ordinary citizen, but rather a high-ranking Government official and leader of a British Overseas Territory.
Governor maintains he did not know about Fahie sting
While the Governor has never admitted to authorising DEA operations and indicated that he was not aware of the sting operation, the podcast explored the possibility that someone was lying about who knew about the operations that led to the arrest.
Speaking in the Tortoise Media podcast, Governor Rankin maintained, “It was London who informed me because they had been informed by the US authorities that morning of the arrest of Premier Fahie..."
“This was not a joint UK/US operation it was a US operation which led to the arrest of former Premier Fahie,” he further said.
Tortoise Media said, despite the claims of the Governor, that a recording sent ‘inadvertently’ by the Governor’s Office suggested that the Governor does in fact sign off on US DEA operations in the VI and that he generally knows of investigations that are underway.
Governor admits to authorising DEA operations
The Governor in a short clip said, “I do give the authorisation for DEA operations.”
Tortoise Media further revealed that while the Governor was aware of operations, he maintained that in the case of Hon Fahie, he was not informed about the operations.
Giles Whittell, Tortoise Media podcast narrator outlined, “So one of two things happened in Miami… either the UK Government was genuinely blindsided by Fahie's arrest which would be odd if the Governor who after all is responsible for security and is meant to sign off on DEA operations.”
“This would mean the Office of the Attorney General in Washington declined to inform an ally that the Head of Government was due to be arrested in a planned sting operation."
He said another possibility was that Her Majesty’s Government was not blind-sided, "and at some level, acquiesced in the removal of a Premier it had reason to believe was corrupt.”
UK might have known about operations - Podcast suggests
Whittell in his podcast suggested that the UK might have outsourced its law enforcement to the US, with another possibility that the Governor was not told about the operations for his own safety.
“But it doesn’t mean Washington won’t speak to London,” he added.
The Premier, according to Tortoise Media, is now confined in a two-bedroom flat in Miami where he must stay there 24/7.
In a court document filed by his attorney Theresa Van Vliet, Hon Fahie successfully requested that the trial resumes no sooner than January 16, 2023.

Its simple if there was no "war on drugs" half the people who are hooked on them would be able to get medical assistance as logically it is a health problem to take harmful substances into YOUR body.

The president of Colombia recently went to the UN assembly and blasted them about the consequences of this Forever war on drugs that is continually being lost, and steadily creating more violence & supporting crime.
Yet you hear nothing of his speech as if he's waging a war in Ukraine. He said decriminalize. Joe says no that's not our policy.

Don't let them fool you the Governor know what was going on all the time he is responsible for security any sting operation he must give approval along with force. Otherwise operations becomes void. Well since they didnt know these people came in the territory to work and violated the laws of the territory. No wonder customs head exposed the police taking people out and in the territory without proper clearance. All of them had to know so don't be fooled with your eyes wide open
