DeVante ‘Chappy’ Maduro to spend 13 months in prison

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – One month after he made his initial appearance in the Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards, DeVante ‘Chappy’ Maduro was committed to the confines of Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsum Ghut for the next thirteen (13) months.

The young businessman, 22 years of age, had on February 6, 2015 pleaded guilty at the first opportunity given to him to four counts of theft. He had admitted to stealing in excess of 50 bottles of some of the finest liquour from RiteWay Food Market over a given period – September 6, 9, 11 and 12, 2014.

Maduro had told the court that at the time of committing the offense his business was flat, not doing well, his family situation was not anyway to a good economic standing as his mother was not working and his father was "out of the picture".

Though caught on camera, he had thanked the management of RiteWay as he said had it not been for them he might have been forced to do "other things", which he had described as "stupid".

As he appeared to be sentenced this morning, March 6, 2015 Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards imposed a 13-month sentence on him.

Maduro count one (1) of Maduro's sentences he is pay a $1,000 fine or two months in prison; count 2, $2,000 or six months in prison; count 3, six months in prison; and count 4, seven months in prison. He was also ordered to pay RiteWay compensation of $2000 or four months in prison

Maduro’s prison sentences are to run consecutively.

    I think it was more stupid of him to mention that "Thanks top Rite Way, he woouldve been forced to do other things" ..... Nigga u don't say them things in court. Court gon slap the maximum on you. That's basically telling them that if they gave u to come out sooner, you gonna execute your criminal activities!!!!!!! SMH !!!!

      the young man made a big mistake yes, but geeze man the magistrate could made him pay rite way a fine and then put him on probation, this guy is out there trying his best to be the best he can be- where are our hearts for the this generation?

        No matter how hard life is, you DONT put your hands on other peoples property !!! All crimes must be punishable. Plus that statement he made about RiteWay saving him from continuing, is grounds to tell the court you had major plans ahead !!! If he had only tell them of his sappy story of his mom and dad woes, then they would've been lenient on him

    All it is is that the dude got the wrong last name. Wa he did? Teef 2 bottles of rum, a bottle of vodka, 3 bottles bridal? Sure it wrong. But a Vinci man from Public Work take people money to sell them government vehicles he had no authority to sell, he went to court was find guilty, and da judge put the man back on the street. Then the same NDP hypprocrets tek and put the same crook back PWD to work.
