Detectives find body believed to be that of Miya Marcano
In an update this afternoon, Saturday, October 2, 2021, Sheriff John Mina said the orange county emergency response team was searching the area just off of Tymber Skan Apartment in Orange County where they discovered a body believed to be Marcano.
Hundreds of officers were committed to the case - Sheriff Mina
According to the Sheriff, the parents of the young woman have since been notified and he described the news as ‘heartbreak’ given hundreds of police officers were committed to the case and working hard to find Marcano alive.
The sheriff said September 24, 2021, cellphone records of dead suspect Armando Manuel Caballero; who is believed to have committed suicide, pointed to the area, prompting police to conduct a search.
“He was there for about 20 minutes, nothing in the records indicate that he ever returned there prior to killing himself,” Sheriff Mina said.
Friday, September 24, 2021, was also the last day that Marcano was last seen alive.
Cause of death still to be determined
While the Sheriff indicated that the police will not speculate at the cause of death, he said a positive identification will have to come from the medical examiner’s office even as officers are certain of the identity.
“The most important thing right now is that unfortunately, we have found what we believe to be the remains of Miya,” he said.
Sheriff Mina said the case has brought anguish to not only the family and friends of Marcano, but the entire local community.
