ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Deputy Governor Mr David D. Archer, Jr. stated that the public service has shown significant growth over the past year.

He made this remark while reflecting on the year 2025 in his November Monthly Message.

Training initiatives introduced

Mr Archer acknowledged the hard work of over 2,400 public officers within the public sector while also stating that initiatives were put in place for the further enhancement of public officers over the past year. “We have introduced learning hours in the public service, where every public officer is encouraged to attend, learn, and commit to their personal development over time.”

He emphasised the critical role of the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute, explaining that they have created programmes and projects to enhance the skills of public officers. He expressed his gratitude to the institute for its contributions.

Improving the public service is critical

Mr Archer reminded public officers that their work is for the benefit of the public. “The work that we do—our initiatives and our efforts—are aimed at improving the public service to ensure that the public we serve is happy and content."

He continued, “As we grow individually, we will also grow collectively, contributing to the wider fabric of a better Virgin Islands. Each public officer should know that you are capable and have the potential to contribute not only to your own growth but also to the growth of the entire territory.”

Furthermore, he stated, “As we approach 2026, let's remember that we are the public service. We aim to transform and become better than we have been before, and we will be held accountable for our progress.”

Increase in numbers and salaries but no increase in productivity or performance.

Bad attitude, laid back I don’t give a damn, you are bothering me from my TikTok videos kinda people in the public service sector. Oooiii
