Deputy Gov David D. Archer Jr to act as Governor from July 9-19, 2022

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Deputy Governor of the Virgin Islands, Mr. David D. Archer, Jr. will act in the Office of Governor from July 9 – 19, 2022 in the absence of His Excellency the Governor, Mr. John J. Rankin, CMG who will be out of the Territory.

This is according to a Friday, July 8, 2022, release from the Government Information Service, which states that Deputy Governor Archer, Jr.’s appointment is in accordance with section 37 (1) (a) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order 2007.

The Constitution states, “During any period when the office of Governor is vacant, or the Governor is absent from the Virgin Islands or is for any other reason unable to perform the functions of his or her office, the Deputy Governor shall during Her Majesty’s pleasure, act in the office of Governor and shall perform the functions of that office accordingly.”

The Information indicated that the Governor will be out of the territory for a total of 10 days.

          @WTF that's not true remember its bVIslanders who came forward and speak out to the COI while some others didnt saying they were afraid because they aint from here. Which a case can be made that they don't speak out in their home countries either but want to be here criticizing and pulling down. The UK bears a lot of blame to the state of this country. When it was a cut they didn't stop the bleeding they waited until it became an open wound in which BVISlanders were calling for a cop long before Jasper even came here.

    Yeah, can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen. Is he running to Miami to NOW to speak to Fahie, to cover his tracks? If not going to Miami, running to the UK for backup advice on how to finish us off by taking away OUR CONSTITUTION?

    You don't need a white Governor but you do need a Governor. Many people still do not seem to get it that the VI is a Territory of the UK. As such it has a Governor. The race or gender of the Governor, or religion or sexual preferences do not matter. Now it does take some experience to be able to take on this position. VIslanders have British Passport and could join the diplomatic services and one day be a Governor here or elsewhere, maybe, but it is not clear how many VIslanders are pursuing such work. You don't get given a Governor role just because you are black, or gay or Muslim or white or some combination. It needs many years of hard work and experience. You should put your recommendations forward and don't forget there are many Asian people with a lot of experience. There will also be people of alternative gender or sexual preferences, but a black gay Governor may just bring out a whole other set of prejudice from you.

    Is it manifestly divined that only White men can represent the UK in the BVI? The BVI has had commissioners, administrators and governors for several hundred years, yet, to date only white men have this honour/dishonour. Why had a person of African descent have only been allowed to act as governor for a minute but yet to be appointed permanently? Is it because the UK is uncomfortable with Blacks serving as governor or think they are not up to the task intellectually? Is the Deputy Governor which is always filled by a local a token position with no real responsibility?
