ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- After nearly four decades in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Alwin James has announced his retirement as a law enforcement officer.

Mr James informed his colleagues of his bombshell decision to retire via a letter, which has since been obtained by our newsroom.

It is unclear when will be Mr James' last day on the job.

"I have made the decision after almost 37 years of service to the people of this territory and the force to end my career as a law enforcement officer. It is with sadness that I officially share my departure with all ranks and support staff that has served with me for the past years," the letter stated.

'We overcame many adversities'- DCP James

Mr James said the RVIPF was faced with many challenges and overcame many adversities during his tenure.

"I love this noble profession and is grateful for the rewarding and successful career over the years."

He also thanked the RVIPF for giving him support during his time in leadership.

"There were some traumatic experiences like the murder of Constable Rawlins and wounding of Ag. Sergeant Browne in 1985, shooting of Chief Inspector Jacob George in 1996, hurricane Irma in 2017 and others that will never be forgotten by me. We stood as a family and supported each other," Mr James stated in his letter to colleagues.

DCP James was appointed Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police in 2012 and was promoted to the rank substantively in late 2013. He served as Acting Commissioner for an extended period in 2015 and played a critical part in the response to the catastrophic hurricanes in 2017.

He was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in Her Majesty the Queen’s 2021 New Year Honours.

The Lord's timing is right what GOD put together no man put a sonder. The RVIPF must carryon in a new direction better for the ppl of the Territory.

Agreeing with your comment, seems like the only way some people function or can only function is by being up in people’s business. Sicking right? That is why I live under the radar here in the BVI. The less they see me or know about me, the better.

Despite what is said of Deputy Commissioner James, he has done a very remarkable job in service and protection of the people of this territory. Now that he is retired from the RVIP, he has left his mark whether it pleased some or displeased the others he will not be in the force. To serve an organization for thirty seven years is more than half of his life span and that his dedication to the organization.

Now that he is leaving, let us wish him well in his retirement. To those who are still serving the force let us try to embrace the community thus making the people to cooperate with them and make this territory a better place for everyone to feel safe

Truth be told, Mr James leaving is bittersweet. While a large percentage of the force would like to see the back of him, we have to also consider how the doors would be open once again for the colonialists. They would soon be placed in all the strategic positions on the force. Then we will complain again. James wasn’t a pie, I have nothing nice to say about him, but God knows I rather have him that another white man coming here and thinking they are superior to every black man. These people has serious problem with our black Caribbean brothers and sisters having senior positions in the force. Wake up, my people. They placing a white man in every specialist position. And they coming like the know what they are doing. They don’t know squat. Their success would come off the backs of the black labourers

This is so true. All the locals who rejoicing please stop. Cause the white men just using y’all to take over. Check and see who getting the senior position within the next couple of months. White superintendent in charge of crime. White chief inspector and inspector crime. White people would be in all them units in crime and wouldn’t solve a thing. But enjoy the Caribbean life.

I know how you feel but in some situation a white person at the top is better than the black, right now the hospital can use a white person who know what they are doing as the CEO and HR Manager. so the can fix the rest of the hospital.

He more so than most, can relate about the decay of the VI effective with the influx of immigrants. The 37+ years he has done his best but to no avail as he witnessed firsthand how the VI has become the loser in this changing of the demographics.

Don't care how much you give. Don't care how much you contributes. Don't care how much you sacrifice. Don't care how long you live here, as long as your parents are not from here you are never accepted or acknowledged. You are never accorded the common human decency of "thank you for your service". The Americans and the Europeans who call her their home is never reminded of where they are from as often as our Caribbean people are constantly being reminded.
    What do you call this?

TIME UP, who ever you are,Police officer or civilian, man or woman, from here or where ever, I live in the BVIs long enough and know enough about the Police Force to tell you this.

If you are a Police ,you sure have less years in the Police Force that James # 1 2,3,4 or what ever number you want to use to discribe them and for sure you have not contributed as much as them to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and the BVIs and you are not a better Police officer than them and will never be. The record is there to show. I can bet you that you haven't been to court more than them.

Instead of all you keep hating on James 1, 2,3,4, or what ever number study all you life. For sure James # 1,2, 3 or what ever number you want to use is not studying you.

Do me a favour, man up or woman up and since you know that James #2 should go next say it in person don't hide behind blogs. Because I know them and if anyone of them have that to tell You that in your face they surely will.

Some of all you wasn't even born yet when they join the Force but all you just want to go in and sit on all you A...s and do nothing but want Rank and position. Go work. You haters.
