ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Althea Scatliffe Primary School (ASPS) building, which was deemed unsafe last year, is no more.

Demolition of the school began on Monday, April 3, 2023, and was completed today, Wednesday, April 12, 2023, more than a week ahead of schedule.

The demolition project was led by Asif Glasgow Backhoe Services out of Purcell Estate.

Supporting contractors included D-S Trucking, KPK Heavy Equipment, B&B Trucking, JBF Trucking, Sheldon Jeffrey Trucking, and Birds Man Trucking.

New building will be ready by 2024/2025 school year- Hon de Castro

“The demolition of the structure signals a rebuild, to which the Government is fully committed, so students can return to the home of the “Mighty, Mighty Scatliffe” by school year 2024/2025,” Education Minister Sharie B. de Castro (AL) stated on April 1, 2023.

A group of past and present teachers and students of the Althea Scatliffe Primary School had gathered on the school campus on Saturday, April 1, wearing uniform colours of pink and maroon to pay homage, and sang “the last chant” as they released balloons into the air prior to the commencement of the demolition.

According to Government Information Services (GIS) in a press release on April 11, 2023, the demolition was expected to take approximately three weeks.

More and more cut backs, now they are going to rent another building for that a school another $40 gran a month..Things ain getting better in this place...Why yjey didn't push down Brierecliff hall first, Rebuilt it back to put the school, then break the school down...Then again was an independent study done to indicate that breaking down that school was the best option..or the only option..In some other countries that would have being their Premier school as is.. We are abusing our blessings in thia country..When the blessings stop flowing. Hmmm

Please don’t take 5 years to rebuild the school. The mighty Scatliffe will rise again.

It would be nice if Station Road housed the police station, police commissioner, cells, magistrates court, high court and a modern Althea Scatcliffe was built on a more suitable location.

The property is destined to become a car park for all the government buildings in this area of Road Town. No new building of any type will rise from the dust of the Althea Scatliffe school. Please stop deceiving the public with all these building plans that will never happen.

That school was not built up to standard . Halfway through the company ran out of funds. The good Omar hodge muster us a fund and they barely put it up. That school was falling years ago. I saw clumps of concrete falling even before hurricane
