ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The rush for early bird tickets for the 2023 edition of the Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival has forced the organising committee to print more early bird tickets.

This was confirmed by Vice-Chairman of the VI Festival and Fairs Committee (VIF&FC) Mr Birchfield Burton Lettsome aka DJ Bertrum.

“Viewing from that first day [of ticket sales], the amount of activities and excitement and the number of people that came out, we had to go back to the drawing board and do some re-printing here and there because it’s been amazing.”

The early bird sale started on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, with limited hours of ticket sale at $100 each covering entrance for one person to the festival on the nights of August 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8.

The sale location were all sold out in short order, with many persons commenting that there were just not enough early bird tickets.

The final early bird tickets for a season pass began from 1:00pm today at the CCT Flagship Store, the CCT store in Virgin Gorda, and Riteway in Pasea.

Ticket price @ $140

Mr Lettsome also said the committee will hold off on releasing numbers as per early bird ticket sales until they would have come to the end of the promotion.

Today, June 15, 2023, the early bird ticket price is up to $140.

The previous price was $130.

This is not Festival at all. This is now a Carnival or a Music Festival. Nothing there for the older folks to enjoy. A bunch of just come reggae artists from Jamaica. A set from Trinibad. No regional legendary artists. Nothing from USVI. Nothing close to cultural or representing our culture. One artist sings about vagina problems and does soft porn on stage. Another promotes gangsters and violence and killing his opps. This year we killed our one cultural event and turned it in to a carnival. No coming back from this. The 70th will be worse in terms of losing the cultural festival celebration of freedom from slavery and our forefathers’ sacrifices. The young people excited to see these one or two hit wonders yes. But at what cost to our culture?

Any man wha keep singing about a vagina ain’t come from a mudda. Is a test tube baby he be. I just can’t digest the vulgar lyrics. Gone are the days when music would be banned and people wonder how the young generation is the way they is

      YOU’RE ON POINT!!!!!!!!!!

This part as well “Another promotes gangsters and violence and killing his opps.”

WHAT HAS THIS SOCIETY COME TO ????????‍♀️ THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT LIKED THE VI Festival post about that artist shows morals have gone through the window including with the Committee.

As for the young lady who was on DYAS Voice hoping to get a music deal with that local gangsta record label, parents train up your child in the way of God and advise her otherwise.

The older folks needs to form their own Committee and have their own Festival since they got kick to the curb. All they are doing is catering to the one hit wonders talking about they are artists. Someone was talking about the same thing the other day when one of the I would call her a bend over washboard talking about no one want to listen to the Lashing dogs music and Fungi band music because their music is played out and they will get booed. I guess the bending over and letting every dirty men perform sexual acts on their behinds is the new Emancipation. Those nasty looking fat women with their big nasty looking selves pun intended, probably be reeking when they are bending over so the men can wine up on their fat funky behinds.

Thank you Dirk for putting together an awesome line up! I know the geriatric folks are going to run under here and complain as usual about the type of artists and music and how we lost our culture etc. even when you bring people they would like they still don’t come out and support. Keyboard warriors. It’s the young people that come out and spend and support the booths, so thanks for focusing on catering to them!

The Bible says, “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:8)

Listen up!! People who STAND FOR DECENCY not geriatric are speaking up so your attempt to shade fell by the wayside.

The thing with this place is people talk about putting down the guns when someone is killed, expect children to stop being force-ripe yet promote the same things they claim to be against.

      A. DISGRACE TO SEE THE PEOPLE WHO SPEAK GOD IN ONE SIDE OF THEIR MOUTH LIKING THIS FILTH ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

Well, I'm afraid of crowds now and will stay home or to some other place away from all of this madness. This is not the festival I grew up seeing. It is now very vulgar and wiped out everything we had, in the beginning, to show our emancipation from slavery. Now it is just sad and wild and out of control. Shootings are on the rise and I'm afraid to go out at night.

I'm not from the sister Islands nor do I live on any of them, but it's time that they are afforded the same opportunities as the main land. Why was there no outlets on the sister Islands so that they could have the chance to purchase early bird ticket(s)? Come on, when are we coming to show growth in this territory. Year in, year out we repeat the same behaviors in nearly every main undertaking that we participate in. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing inclusion and growth. It's not too late, festival committee and district representatives for the sister islands, hear my cry and do right by those people. Give them the opportunity that others are being afforded. It's time to stop punishing the sisters Islands.

It was advertised and reported that tickets were selling in VG at CCT and that persons stood in lines in Virgin Gorda and Road Town at CCT Outlets to purchase $100 Tier 1 tickets which cover access to all major festival events from August 3 to 8.

Still shows where people’s priorities are but still saying they’re broke.

I saw the ad. I appreciate that it was done in Virgin Gorda but what about Anegada and Jost Van Dyke? When I speak, I'm referring mainly to the four major islands in the BVI.

WE ALL THOUGHT THE BVI FESTIVAL WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A CULTURAL POTRAYAL OF OUR HISTORIC EVENTS THAT HELPED SHAPE THE COUNTRY , BEFORE THE GUNS / DRUGS AND EXECUTION STYLE MURDERS ETC TOOK OVER ???? SO HOPEFULLY MISS PARSONS CAN SHED SOME LIGHT ON IT , BECAUSE THE GREAT HISTORIAN ( E . LEONARD , ONLY KNOWS ABOUT RACISM AND COLONIALISM FROM CENTURIES AGO , BUT GETS SUDDEN SPELLS OF AMNESIA , WHEN IT COMES TO WHAT WENT DOWN IN HIS OWN BACK YARD , ABOUT ( THE ORIGIN OF THEM " ISLAND PEOPLE " AND WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF IT / HOPEFULLY NONE OF THOSE CRACKHEADS DON'T FLIP OUT AND START FLEXING OFF
THEMSELVES WHEN THEY START JAMMING THE GANSTER LYRICS ON STAGE ????
