MAJOR BAY, Tortola, VI-Mothers working at Delta Petroleum in the Virgin Islands (VI), were catered for by the company yesterday May 13, 2012, where they attended the East End Apostolic Faith in East End followed by lunch at the home of General Manager Mr. Bevis Sylvester.

Mr. Sylvester explained that this gesture is simply the men of Delta doing their duties to the mothers of the company. He added that the event is made into a family affair, where the mothers can bring their children and their husbands. “It’s a time for me to get to know the other side of my staff.”

Sylvester stated that it is not a ‘Motivational Scheme’, but it is simply to know each other on a personal level.

“Once the staff sees what they get out of it and what’s there for them, they are motivated, so by us spending time with them on Mother’s Day and showing that we are very interested in knowing their families, then they are motivated.”

He stated that the church was picked by the staff both last year and this year to attend for their Mother's Day service and coincidentally he too attends the same church for his blessing.

“There is a message I give to all the mothers and that is to encourage them and remind them that their role is a very pivotal one in society, there are so many broken homes around where the father is not around and mothers are left to bear this responsibility alone, our hearts go out to them,” said Mr. Sylvester.

He encouraged and congratulated his mother and all the other mothers in the VI, especially those who are a crucial factor in his life, both in his youth and now.

This news site learned that the mothers of Delta normally do something for the fathers on Father’s Day, no telling what is being planned as yet.

Good jesture but I wish he would treat his workers this way in private as well. Like paying overtime when they work for 10 hours or more etc. Anythin over 8 hours is time and a half if you did not know that.

This is the same man that was blatantly racist in his failed election campaign, perhaps he should spread the real word of love. In the meantime a number of us still boycott his gas station!

I comment Mr. Sylvester for this. I do not see any other CEO in the BVI doing this type of thing for their staff. He must be highly commended. This is true corporate responsibility and management commitment and dedication to staff.

I wish all bosses and managing director's could take note or two from Bevis, if they can treat their employees this way, productivity and work performance would be much greater. But that's a just a wish, them trust company director's don't give 2 cents about them employees all they care about is getting that work done.
