Delta Petroleum brings Christmas cheer to HMP
The company’s carolers brought Christmas cheer to the staff and inmates of the institution with renditions such as Silent Night, O Come All Ye Faithful, Deck the Halls and Go Tell it on the Mountain, among others.
Merlyn Gordon, Delta’s Regional Executive Assistant, brought greetings on behalf of Bevis Sylvester, Regional General Manager, who was unable to attend. In her remarks, Gordon told the inmates this is a time when their faith will be tested.
She said, “There are much bigger and brighter things in store for you. The Lord whose birth we celebrate at this time of the year has the master plan for all of our lives. If we entrust him with our lives, he will eventually reveal what he has in store for each one of us.”
Gordon went on to urge the inmates to focus their attention on the Lord and to remember that he is the reason for the Season. She ended by wishing all a Blessed Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
Richard Holder, Superintendent of Prison, said he is honored that the prisons was selected by Delta to be their first stop in their Christmas Season Community Outreach. He said there are usually many misconceptions about the prison, but it is really a place to get rehabilitated and fit back into the community.
He expressed his gratitude to his officers who manage the daily affairs of the prisons.“These officers are here during rain or storm, even on Christmas Day many of them have to work. They spend many nights away from their families and so I thank them for their commitment,” he said.
Holder also commended Delta Petroleum for the good business relationship it keeps with the HMP.
“Delta always supports us and always delivers on time,” he said. He further stated he looks forward to having the company bring Christmas cheer come next year.
In expressing their gratitude, the institution's senior staff sang ‘The First Noel.’
