Delta Petroleum assures VI of “world market” fuel prices
The company currently gets its fuel from Hovensa and is responsible for the supply of fuel to the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) while it has several gas station outlets throughout the Territory and also in several other Caribbean countries.
Sylvester said while the closing of the Hovensa Oil Refinery came as a shock to the world, its closing is not expected to impact Delta’s operation as the company is currently in negotiation with other refineries.
He disclosed that Hovensa has guaranteed fuel supply until June and by that time Delta would have another supplier.
Sylvester also assured that the new supplier will also meet the Environmental Protection Agency standard as Delta prides itself in maintaining the highest quality products at all times.
He also noted that the BVIEC is not the only electricity company that Delta supplies but also in Nevis and Montserrat. He said in Nevis they currently have a five year contract while there is a three year one in place in Montserrat.
Delta’s local fuel supply contract for BVIEC comes to an end in September and a tendering process will determine as usual who the supplier will be.
Meanwhile, Acting General Manager of BVIEC Henry Creque has also assured customers that no immediate impact from Hovensa’s closing will be reflected in their electricity bills. Creque had told this news site that the corporation has a fuel supply contract with Delta Petroleum who gets its fuel from Hovensa and it has since received formal assurances that its fuel supplies will not be interrupted and the prices in the contract which runs until the end of August 2012, should remain the same.
Delta Petroleum which was founded in 1985, prides itself as only selling “ultra clean superior performance diesel, gasoline and LPG meeting the highest U.S. and European standards”.
The company has branches in the Virgin Islands, Montserrat, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Marteen and Anguilla.
