CHARLOTTE AMALIE- A man was fatally shot Just after midnight on Sunday, May 4, 2025, —effectively late Saturday night — in the restroom of the Fort Christian Parking Lot, bringing a tragic and abrupt end to the final night of Village activities during this year’s St Thomas Carnival in the US Virgin Islands.

According to the V.I. Police Department, the shooting occurred during the final hours of the celebration. The incident, which took place just after midnight, was confirmed to be fatal. Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting are still emerging.

VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte told the Consortium that the victim has been identified as 26-year-old Frankie Matthew.

At the time of the shooting, several musical performances were still scheduled to take place. The Village was officially shut down at approximately 12:15 a.m., cutting short the festivities that were planned to close out what had been a rain-soaked Carnival season.

Tonight's events marked the final gathering in a Carnival that faced numerous challenges due to inclement weather. Organizers and revelers had hoped for a strong and festive finish despite the rain, but the night ended instead under a cloud of tragedy and concern.

The V.I. Police Department is actively investigating the incident. No arrests had been reported as of press time. Officials are urging anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward. Further details will be shared as they become available.

A fool always waiting to spoil the show. If he was paying the artists that night I bet the thought wouldn't have crossed his mind. Everyone who lost money that night should sue him.

Money lost?! That is what you got out of this report? You probably are a performer or someone without an empathetic bone for human life. RIP - a life gone.
