Davis & Mitcham win ‘2 Cars for a Dollar Raffle’
The excitement was evident when Virgin Islands News Online spoke to them via telephone to get their reactions.
Both cars were raffled during the BVI Spring Fest on Friday March 3 and Saturday March 4, 2017, between 12:00 PM and 1:00 AM just before the main act.
Winners
Kesha D. Davis, 40, of Great Mountain won the Blue 2016 Nissan Versa. She said she was home when she got the call.
“I’m excited to win because I have always been buying tickets and stuff and I have never won anything before. So it is really exciting for me to have won a car!” she said.
According to her, she bought the tickets during the promotion at Bobby’s Supermarket parking lot on Friday last week.
She recalled the phone call that she was happy to receive on Friday night.
“My phone is ringing and my phone doesn’t ring in the middle of the night, so it’s either an emergency or I really win this car or something,” Davis stated.
She said she wasn’t in the mood to go down the road that night and opted to remain home. She said when she answered and she heard that she won, that’s all she heard.
“I was like oh my gosh, to be quite honest with you, I started laughing so much, I didn’t hear anything he told me after that. I was so excited, the crowd was cheering, and the only thing I remember he said I have one question for you, which one do you want, the white one or the blue one, I said I want the blue one!”
She said she has a truck that has a couple years and would definitely keep her car and pass it on to her daughter who is turning 18 this year.
$10.00 investment
Meantime Vaughn O. Mitcham, 28, of Brewers Bay who also bought tickets on Thursday at the same location at Bobby’s, was at the BVI Spring Fete when he was announced, winner. He won the white 2016 Nissan Versa.
“I was going to buy the boys some drinks so I decided instead of spending $50 on drinks I would spend $40 and buy a $10 chance.
“It kind of feel surreal, it’s like I just win a brand new car! It was nice! I feel good, that is going to go a long way in helping me out,” Mitcham noted, adding that while he already owns a car, he is in the process of deciding what to do with it.
“I’ m going to drive it first to see which one I prefer,” he said with a laugh.
Promised charities to receive financial donations
Owner and Manager of Tola Radio VI, Floyd ‘Heritage’ Burnett expressed gratitude to the many who participated in the initiative, adding that the charitable organisations will be receiving their promised financial donations soon.
The VI community can expect a bigger and better game by summer and some major announcements are slated to be made as it relates to the growth of Tola Radio VI.
Each car raffled is valued at $17,500 and comes with one year’s insurance from Caribbean Insurers Limited.
The game was done in partnership with Burke's Garage and the Association to Preserve Virgin Islands Heritage. Some of the sponsors are Virgin Islands News Online, Autland Heavy Equipment Ltd, Caribbean Insurers Limited, Caribbean Cellars, ZROD 103.7 FM and BVI News Online.
