David James denies choking woman at her home
James, 26, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm when he appeared before Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-Dabreo yesterday, May 30, 2014.
According to the allegations, the Virtual Complainant was awakened when the defendant came to her home in Little Apple Bay on the night of March 23, 2014. The two got into an argument and a scuffle ensued afterwards.
James allegedly attacked the woman causing her to fall on the ground. It was at this point that he allegedly squeezed her throat with one hand causing her to lose her breath and sight for about five seconds.
He allegedly used his other hand and hit the woman’s face several times.
The woman reportedly grabbed and yanked James’ hair in retaliation, after which he eventually let go of her. She then ran to her room, grabbed some mace and sprayed some in his direction causing him to leave the house.
The court heard that the woman chased the defendant but was unable to catch up. She then used a stone and damaged the front and back windshield of a blue BMW.
A report of the incident was made and a police constable later observed several bruises on the VC’s face and other areas. She was also treated at the Peebles Hospital and sent away.
Under caution, James allegedly told a Police Officer: “I was trying to leave and she tried to hold me back. I must be accidentally hit she.”
He was taken to the West End Police Station and an audio/visual interview was conducted at the Road Town Police Station after which he was charged with the offence.
James remains on bail and is expected to return to court on August 27, 2014.
