VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Amid claims there is no ambulance on Virgin Gorda, Ninth District Representative and Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Vincent O. Wheatley has proven those claims as unfounded.

Hon Wheatley, in a statement on May 30, 2025, said the Ministry of Health and Social Development acknowledges the recent public concern surrounding the operational status of the ambulance on Virgin Gorda.

“I wish to reassure residents that the ambulance is fully operational, currently in service, and prepared to respond promptly to any medical emergencies on the island.”

It was in March 2024 that the community of Virgin Gorda received an ambulance from Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS).

Ambulance underwent routine servicing

Hon Wheatley clarified, however, that there was a brief period when the ambulance underwent routine servicing.

“During that time, contingency measures were implemented to ensure uninterrupted emergency response capabilities. We extend our sincere thanks to the public for their patience and understanding.”

The Health Minister said the safety and well-being of all residents remain the Ministry’s highest priority.

“We are committed to ensuring that Virgin Gorda, and all our Sister Islands, continue to receive the emergency medical services they rightfully deserve.

“We encourage residents to contact the Nurse Iris O’Neal Medical Centre or the BVI Health Services Authority with any questions or concerns related to medical services,” Honourable Wheatley stated.

Just no regular affordable freight and ferry service to Anegada.
They haven't even got solar power up there.

Vincent, from what I can remember the post indicated there was no working ambulance, not that one did not exist. And if the ambulance is being serviced, it means NONE is available. Put a plan of action in place to deal with this, so that if a call comes in while the ambulance is in the shop people have a backup.

Sorry, I don’t speak angry black woman. And please take some time to edit what you post. Your view matters and I wouldn’t want to misquote you. And besides, my university-trained brain really struggled reading that.

Well all VG ppl knows there is functioning ambulances on VG. As we see it regularly at the ferry dock picking up the driver children, at RiteWay and Bucks, at Clarence Thomas just the mention a few. It seems as it is use the run employees errands. God forbid an accident actually happen when the ambulance is doing personal errands. I do hope it reach in time and not caught up in RiteWay never ending long line.

Wow, so we have to have a charity donate us an ambulance because this government does not even provide the basics. What a third world country we have become.
