CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI- The sounds of fungi music, the smell of grilled fish freshly caught, and the many local items, including local foods and fruits and vegetables on display were part of the experience of Culture Thursdays, which kicked off in Carrot Bay on July 6, 2023.

The event took place on the stretch of Carrot Bay from Selly’s Pit up to the Coal Pot or Garden Restaurant.

Many persons made their way to the cultural village of Carrot Bay to not just take in the cultural atmosphere but some ensured they learned how to prepare and grill a fish, while some savoured the taste of the final product.

A number of fishing and farming products were on sale, and people took the opportunity to bag their organic products and freshly caught fish.

There were even rides on a donkey cart for the adventurous!

First District Representative and Junior Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries Dr the Hon Karl Dawson previously said Cultural Thursdays was suggested during the campaign season and gained wide support.

He said examples of similar activities in the region include Oistins in Barbados and to an extent, Gros Islet in St Lucia.

The initiative was taken to have Culture Thursdays every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, following a public meeting in Carrot Bay on June 7, 2023.

This has nothing to do with VIP/NDP/ADP or any party this is simply a first district affair the idea was discussed before the elections in non political meetings then carried fourth.. So stop the politics.

I like the way the village of Carrot Bay embrace and celebrate their culture. I also heard the traditional older folks is some of the best cooks on the Island if you are looking for traditional foods.

I can't wait for the next one. Any local food you could think of, lots of mingling and just a good old time. I enjoyed seeing the donkey ride with the cart and the people riding seemed to enjoy themselves. Good job. The funny thing is, the vendors started to pack up around 9 o'clock but nobody wanted to go home.

They might be living in the dark ages but they are happy. Carrot Bay is a nice quint village. They don’t be having the type of drama that is going on in other parts of the Island.
