ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Culture in Motion initiative has already borne fruit with the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (VISTS) Plait Pollers performing on night 2 of the Fungi Fest.

The second night of Fungi Fest was held at the Cyril B. Romney Pier Park on November 15, 2025.

Fungi Fest formed part of Tourism and Culture Month, which is being held under the theme ‘Rooted in Culture, Growing through Tourism’.

President of the Rotary Club of Central Tortola, Zoe J. Walcott, revealed that the club had continued Culture in Motion, which was started by Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, Hon Sharie B. de Castro (AL).

The club got the go-ahead for the project after co-signing with the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports.

“I really do want to thank the Minister Hon Sharie de Castro, who actually started this program and allowed us to piggyback with her.”

The Culture in Motion project is currently in about seven schools, Walcott revealed, where the students are taught Fungi music and Plait Poll.

Fungi Fest 2025 began on Jost van Dyke on November 14, 2025, and moved to Tortola on November 15, 2025, culminating on Virgin Gorda on November 16, 2025.

I first plait pole at Low School at St. Georges a lot of years ago. After that it went dead. Good to see it coming back. Good job.
