CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI- Cultural Thursday returns to the vibrant streets of Carrot Bay on Thursday, May 15, 2025, with a special celebration under the theme “A Mother’s Soirée, The Cultural Way.” This month’s edition will honour mothers in true Virgin Islands style—through food, music, heritage, and new adventures.

Starting at 3:00 PM, the event promises a rich mix of cultural experiences and community connection. Highlights include the introduction of farm tours at Aukie’s Farm, a scenic and enriching hike to the lush hills above Carrot Bay, where a variety of
local fruits and crops such as bananas, plantains, mangoes, avocados, sweet potatoes, tania, and cassava will be on display. This exciting new feature, led by local farmer Aukie (Ah-you-kee) Donovan, adds an agricultural twist to the cultural line-up and reflects the growing synergy between tradition and sustainability in the Virgin Islands.

The Sunset Hike to Aukie’s Farm begins at 5:00 PM, and costs $20 per person. Hikers are asked to register for the hike by calling 545-1662. The hike will be followed by a Food & Culture Mother’s Day Happy Hour from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, where traditional Virgin Islands dishes will be available. DJ Shadow and Just The Music Band will keep the energy alive with music that reflects the soul of the islands.

The evening continues with a fun and interactive “Mommy and Me” Village Scavenger Hunt at 7:00 PM, creating moments for families to bond and celebrate the spirit of motherhood.

Hon. Karl Dawson, First District Representative, shared his enthusiasm, saying: “I am thrilled with the introduction of Aukie’s Farm to the cultural and agricultural scene in Carrot Bay. It is consistent with the cultural activity-driven area that we are building in the First District, making it one of the best places for visitors and Virgin Islands residents to visit.”

Monica Howson, President of the Carrot Bay Cultural Thursdays Committee, added: “We have an excellent, interactive lineup for this Cultural Thursday when we honour mothers. We will be on the street once again, which always proves to be an enjoyable experience.”

It is a wonderful event. To attract more people it should be held on a Friday. Some of the people who have to work on Fridays are unable to attend this event. Most of the Seven Day Adventist do not attend, and it is also a shame that a lot of the residents of Carrot Bay do not come out in support
