CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI- Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church will host its Cultural Fest 2024 tomorrow, Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

This year, the event is being held under the theme ‘A Celebration of Unity, Love and Friendship’ and marks a joyful culmination of Cultural Tourism Month, a press release from the church said.

Expressing enthusiasm ahead of Saturday’s event and its return to the national cultural calendar, Senior Pastor Reverend Dr Michael A. Turnbull said, “"We are thrilled to bring our communities together through this celebration.”

He added that the Virgin Islands is home to many cultures, and it is therefore essential to honour and understand one another. “This event is a wonderful opportunity to do just that,” he said.

Pastor Turnbull continued, “It is through interaction, exchange and communications that we are able to Grow together to collectively Give back to our communities.”

The Cultural Fest is expected to be an unforgettable day filled with food, music and learning. Various cultural dishes will be available, and guests are encouraged to dress in tradition attire, to showcase the rich heritage defining the community.

Fruit Cake Competition

One highlight of the event will the Fruit Cake Competition where participants will compete to determine which country makes the best fruit cake.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Dre and Razor Blades and patrons can expect performances from the BVI Heritage Dancers and Health Butcher’s BVI Dance School.

The VI Plaitpole dancers will host demonstration on traditional basket weaving.

Children entertainment will include a bouncy castle and games such as doble dutch, jax, marbles and more. Cultural Icon Mr Elmore Stoutt will “weave tales of tradition through captivating storytelling sessions that promise to inspire both young and old alike”.

Funds to be invested in the community

The press release added that all funds raised during the event will be invested back into the community and local schools.

This the release said, reaffirms “Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church’s commitment to spreading hope and support throughout the Virgin Islands”.

“We are a church that loves to spread hope throughout our community. This November, we are embracing the theme ‘Gratitude: Thanksgiving’, celebrating all we have to be thankful for,” Pastor Turnbull stated.

    Regrettably, Cane Garden Bay's readily visible culture has degenerated from the small village alongside an idyllic palm fringed beach that I knew in the 1970's, to the mass tourist venue of today.
