TRELLIS BAY, Beef Island, VI- In what has been described by sources as a strange incident, two Cubans who landed at Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport at Beef Island on May 30, 2021, on an InterCaribbean flight as in transit passengers, allegedly refused to rejoin the plane.

According to reports, the two Cuba nationals boarded the aircraft in Dominica with Jamaica as their destination but were to remain in transit to the Dominican Republic and Cayman Islands.

Our newsroom understands that the 2 passengers came off the plane while in the VI and attempted to run away.

They were reportedly prevented from leaving the area but refused to return to the plane.

Reports are that the men were subsequently refused entry to the aircraft by the pilots, who allegedly expressed safety concerns due to the men's behaviour.

The Cubans were reportedly taken into custody by Immigration Department.

There is a lot going on than anyone knows about. If they were trying to run away, to where and to who? In a strange country where would you know where to go? Were they supposed to escape while someone here were going to pick them up? Investigation is needed.

I guess they were both vaccinated before boarding their flight from origin?...or already had their Covid tests which came up clean?...(running to avoid your connection)
Feeling confused as to why individuals would refuse to continue a flight to their final destination if there was no questionable agenda.

It's called ' defection" that's all. Cubans are known to defect and seek asylum quite regularly. We see this a lot with Cuban athletes during the Olympics and often with Cuban boxers traveling outside of the country for an event.

You literally stated the answer to your own question. Tortola was their CONNECTING flight with further connections in Cayman Islands and Dominican Republican. Final Destination: Jamaica.

    Asylum anyone?

All fine and well, but should be declared prior to entrance to the country!

But then again, who can determine the mental state of anyone in these trying times?
    WHO?

BVI doesn’t have asylum and even if we did we don’t want them here.

Maybe they wanted to seek asylum like they do in Florida and not return to Cuba...

Immigration must handle this situation ASAP or it will set a precedent and happen again. Government "Must" make it clear that Tortola is not a gateway into the USA.

Hopefully there is an Immigration Officer fluent in Spanish who can politely question these 2 Cubans about their erratic behavior. Perhaps the 2 Cubans thought they were in the USVI.

TWO INDIVIDUALS CLEARLY NO RESPECT FOR THE RULES AND REGULATIONS AS PASSENGERS ON AN AIR PLANE - WHY IN GODS HEAVEN WOULD YOU THEN TAKE SUCH A PERSON AND GIVE THEM WHAT THEY TRULY WANTED. GET A POLICE OFFICER AND ESCORT THEM BACK ON THE PLANE ACCOMPANIED BY THE AUTHORITIES. YOUR SPENDING THE PEOPLES HARD EARNED MONEY BY KEEPING THEM IN THE BVI EVEN IF THEY ARE PLACED IN JAIL. AT THIS POINT JAIL IS TOO GOOD FOR THEM - AS I ALWAYS SAY "SEND THEM BACK"
