ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Businesses in the Virgin Islands (VI) are being urged to desist from allowing staff infected with COVID-19 from turning up to work, as the government continues to recommend best practices and measures to mitigate the spread of the virus.

“I think all businesses should, at this stage, understand that sick staff should not come to work,” Acting Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Ronald E. Georges said during a virtual COVID-19 update on January 7, 2022.

Immediately send sick staff home - Dr Georges

“So, if someone is sick and have upper respiratory symptoms or fever or is feeling unwell, they should immediately be sent off their job and ask either to isolate and have a test,” he added.

Now at 1,272 active COVID-19 cases as of January 10, 2022, key Government officials including Health Minister, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) have indicated that business continuity is a major challenge as the territory navigates the pandemic, including the latest infection spike brought on by the Omicron variant.

Shadowing the Minister’s concerns, Dr Georges emphasised that business continuity as cases surge is as big a concern as the number of infections and the impacts of those infections on the healthcare system.

With private businesses and Government departments impacted, he said companies must now examine their plans for continuity in the context of large numbers of staff bang infected and having to be isolated for long periods of time should the Omicron spread continue.

“As we move forward through this outbreak, we can expect pretty severe impacts in terms of numbers and impacting business continuity. So is important for businesses to take these things on board,” he added.

Businesses should prepare - Acting CMO

The acting CEO advised that local businesses look at their critical business functions and how they can be supported online or without critical staff.

Additionally, Dr Georges said more concerns related to businesses are on procedures to return to work, where staff diagnosed with COVID-19 are being asked to re-test to return; however, he reminded that there is a recovery process.

He said following UK Guidelines, the Health Ministry is recommending a 10-day isolation period for persons infected with COVID-19, with considerations in the works for persons who may test out at day-7 with a rapid antigen test.

Have already directly experienced this as a customer of a service-providing business. Multiple sick-outs due to Covid prolonged the service needed and increased the cost. No finger pointing here, because it must be happening in lots of businesses. Will note however that LOTS of businesses appeared to be lax on enforcing mask wearing during and since the Holiday shopping season.

Masks don't work. They didn't work against Delta and they're even more worthless against Omicron.

Lots of people dont trust the test results especially when they are feeling good and healthy..Especially knowing if they stay at home they wont get pay so they chose to work .. I was told this morning by a medical worker friend in St Thomas to flush my nostrils out before i get tested with peroxide because any mucus the swab pick up in the nose either from the flu or your sinus would be shown as a positive Covid test....Wow....Can a medical person dispute this allegation with facts pls..?

This can't be real. If any employer is having staff they know to be Covid positive show up to work is committing criminal acts.. Than again life maybe so hard with those employees that if they stay home for two weeks they won't get pay and that only make life harder for them..Every employer is not govt who will pay...

there are alot of businesses opened and running , employees sk with fever and sweating and dont want go get tested , or the employer asking them not to get tested because they will be shrt staff. health services need to review who was reported postive in certain busness and let employees and the public know bevause people hiding dem ting

Why do you think they are hiding it? Could it be because they can't afford to miss 10 day's pay by being forced to stay home? 10 day quarantine is doing far more harm than good. End it now, or make sure that every employee has generous sick leave when they are forced through no fault of their own to stay home. If you can't afford that, let them work.

People are being forced to be tested and isolate for 10 days whether they have symptoms or not, and it's crippling the economy, as well as vital sectors like health care. Children are being kept home from school, which means parents can't work. Revisit this damaging policy, now. Omicron is NOT Delta or the original virus. It's a cold.

Obviously This Synthetically Created Anti Body or Antibiotics is not an Vaccine nor an Cure ..

ITS PRIMARY FUNCTION IS TO BOOST YOUR OWN IMMUNE SYSTEM TO CREATE NATURE MADE ANTI BODIES

    FOR BLOOD TYPES
WHICH CAN REJECT THE SYNTHETIC GMO FORM OF ANTI BODY .. AND ...STILL CAUSE THOSE (VACCINATED) TO BECOME INFECTED BECAUSE THE RESEARCHERS HAVE NOT IDENTIFIED WHICH SECTION OF THE BLOOD CONTAINS THE IMMUNE SYSTEM..

HOW DOES ONE BOOST HAEMOGLOBIN WITH AN SYNTHETIC GMO ELEMENTAL COMPOUNDMENTS..

    O.- POSITIVE.. B- POSITIVE
O-NEGATIVE....B- NEGATIVE..WHERE ONE FORM OF THE BLOOD CAN ADAPT WHILE THE OTHER FORM CAN REJECT.. AND WHY
WAS THE DECISION MADE TO CREATE AN IMMUNE SYSTEM BOOSTER RATHER THAN AN CURE...????
