ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Two businesses on the main island Tortola in the Virgin Islands (VI) were last evening January 14, 2022, fined and closed by the VI Government’s Social Distancing Task Force (SDTF).

Chief Environmental Health Officer (CEHO), Mr Lionel E. Michael named the two businesses as Peg Legs of Nanny Cay and the Mambo Night Club and Bar.

Both nightspots were shuttered after officers found the establishments not adhering to the stipulations of mask-wearing and Social Distancing.

They were also fined $1000 each for the breach of the COVID business protocols.

Businesses will be trained before re-opening– Mr Michael

Mr Michael while addressing the Government's stakeholder meeting on Thursday, January 13, 2022, stressed that his department is not all about the money, but will be ensuring that businesses and their patrons subscribe and adhere to the protocols.

He also complimented other businesses for their adherence to the measures which will curtail the spread of COVID-19.

Mr Michael added that his department is not bent on keeping establishments closed as a form of punishment and will provide training to defaulting businesses.

He said this will ensure the businesses are fully aware of the safety protocols and the necessary measures are put in place to safely reopen for business again.

Well done Mr. Michael. It's about time people in the BVI go by the COVID rules & social distance & wear masks as required in bars & nightclubs. This holds true for both patrons & establishment. More nightclubs need checking!

It is time for the people and businesses in the BVI to start taking responsibility for their actions. This I know I am doing wrong but want to be strong attitude and mentality has to stop. Absolutely no EXCUSES OR EXEMPTIONS BASED ON WHO YOU ARE RELATED TO OR LAST NAMES. THAT LAST NAME THING NO LONGER CARRY THE BUSHMAN WAY OF THINKING.

Time to March to the beat of the drum you selfish people. You idiots don’t want the place to shut down, then idiots follow the rules that was set in place. So what about that fiasco at Foxy's on New Years Eve? Surely they were the worst culprit for breaking all the rules with participants not wearing masks & no social distancing?
Fine them, close them down and make them "fully aware of the safety protocols and the necessary measures are put in place to safely reopen for business again".

Honestly Foxy’s should have been fined as well. Also the Manager should make a public announcement apologizing to the BVI Community; It will be naïve for them to think that their event is what helps brought us to this point.

Back to the point - The selfish greedy of some business people will be the biggest downfall for them. just a kama they will inherit. business owners as well as the customers needs to be more responsible as a person more often it’s the adults that needs buckle up.,

What a load of BS. USVI has all the rules and regs. Bars stop serve alcohol 11 and close midnight but yet still cases rise.

Churches don't spread? Work places don't spread? Schools don't spread? Restaurants don't spread? Cruise ship passengers don't spread? Daycare aren't spreading? Hairdressers and Barbers and spas aren't spreading?

But you are focusing on bars? Easy to make it seem like you are doing something that will make any difference while you turn a blind eye to all the rest?

Clowns! And the set of you siding with this ineffective nonsense that is just a publicity stunt are nothing more than sheeple!

We were there for late lunch last Saturday. The outside tent area was very full of charter guests some getting off their charter some about to go on. They were all seated at their tables without masks. But all of the servers and bartenders were wearing their masks never taking them off. But understandably you can’t eat with a mask on. So how can they enforce that? Instead of picking on outdoor restaurants I can guaran damn tee you the bars that nite more than the one that got shut down we’re not wearing masks, were inside and not social distancing. So why was just one shut down? And I agree with some above why was the venue at Foxy not fined. And they knew ahead of time it would be packed so they shut down a little outdoor restaurant????? No rhyme or reason

Here’s a tip for you. Pull the mask up from the chin, take a bite or sip from your drink and and pull the mask back over your mouth while chewing. WALLA!!! LOL.

I think that all supermarkets should mandate that all customers are required to wear a mask when they are shopping. Some wear mask, some don’t. That is why I always sanitize my groceries when I get home. Customers is always touching and sometimes smelling stuff in the supermarket and putting things back especially in the produce isle. I have even saw a customer in the produce isle mask less coughing while she was picking out green peppers. She did not even have the decency to cough away from the peppers or in the fold of her elbow.

They are doing this already. You get screamed at the security guard if you try to walk in without a mask or sanitising your hands. If you’re still so scared, get your groceries delivered.

Get mad if you want and throw back shade, but I hope the whole island go back on curfew and lock down again. We were doing good at one point but as soon as the rats got let out of their cages, everyone went wild. Maybe another curfew and lock down is what it needs to set them straight.

I can say this that the workers at pegleg does adhere to the rules and protocols,it's us the guest that go there and behave like it's our place. I watched the cashier telling a lady to put her mask on and the lady insisted that she's gonna order her food then go back to her car to get her mask. The cashier said no maam mask before service, and the attitude the customer gave the worker strupess her teeth and rolled her eyes at the employee. People like these are who to be charge and not the business. Those ladies clean as they go. They work together and do their best. As soon as a guest is up from a table they are there with there rags and water to sanitize. So let's not bash them when we know not what took place.
