ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Positive cases of COVID-19 in the Virgin Islands continue to rise, with the latest number of cases reported being 256 as of December 28, 2021. There were 143 active cases at the last update of December 24, 2021.

Acting Chief Medical Officer Ronald E. Georges said the outbreak was due to the Delta variant and that 218 of the positive cases are on Tortola.

‘Intentionally take necessary precautions’- Dr Georges

“As previously mentioned all samples previously sent to CARPHA for typing were positive for the Delta variant and samples continue to be sent for typing on a regular basis,” Dr Georges said in a statement today, December 28, 2021.

The Acting CMO said, in the Virgin Islands, clusters of cases have been identified among businesses, related to social gatherings, events, nightspots and other areas where persons congregate.

“In this holiday season and during this period of increased transmission, as we prepare to engage in the many family and social gatherings and enjoy the holiday season with our friends and families, let us remember that COVID-19 is still present amongst us, and we are to intentionally take the necessary precautions for our health and safety.”

The Virgin Islands last experienced a major spike in COVID-19 cases in July 2021, when more than 1600 positive cases were detected and over 30 COVID-19 related deaths were recorded.

PCR testing

Meanwhile, persons can access PCR testing at the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital Tent by registering at https://althea.bvi.care and by calling the Medical Hotline at 852-7650 if you have any symptoms of COVID-19.

Alternatively, private medical establishments also provide PCR testing, and rapid antigen type tests, and many persons have access to home self-test kits.

The public has also been reminded that PCR test remains the Gold Standard for diagnosis.

the CDC flipflops every week. Don't be a donkey or you will get ridden. Protect yourself and others. 10 days makes more sense than 5 as we still do not know what the hell is going on

We need the stats on who’s positive. Fully vaccinated, boostered and pure bloods.
Who’s in the hospital. People wake up the Premere is boostered and got Covid and so did many on his party a rolling bus. What exactly does the vaccines do for you. You’re still getting punished and losing pay at work. The CDC is so ashamed that they broke science to fool the masses. Wake up don’t take the vaccines they’re not working. The vaccines you took as a child was to protect you not to protect someone else. If they’re taking it to protect us then we don’t need to take it. Think about it

Chupess. Remember unvax has 2 meanings (1 dose or no dose(all of them took a dose of the poison. The politicians labeled them unvax when they died because they were not fully vax(2 dose)

I am responding in hopes you see this. I did not take the vaccine for health reasons but my husband did. We both contracted the virus earlier in the year. My husband was in way better shape than I was. He barely coughed while I was stuck in bed with severe symptoms. I am thankful that things did not get worse but it took me a very long time to recover when my husband was already well on his way. The vaccine does not prevent you from getting covid but it really does give you an upgraded fighting chance. My husband and I are testimony.

        @It helps

I appreciate your testimony and happy to know that by the Grace of God you and your husband are both alive. There is always two sides to a story though. I know of a friend of mine who took the vaccine and had a severe adverse reaction which has left his lung damaged. Dr advised him against the second shot. He can no longer work or even walk long distances without gasping for breath. Why are these stories being muzzled? Ask yourself this. We have no data base system to record adverse events why?

I maintain that these vaccines are not for everyone and therefore it should be down to personal choice and people should not be mandated or bullied if believe that it is not best for them. You and all admitted you did not take it for a medical reason and that MUST be respected. I am not going to get into why you had a more adverse reaction to covid than your husband but could it be linked to your medical reason?

Everybody can spread it! The vaccine protects you from serious illness, hospitalization and death. It does not prevent you contracting the virus, if exposed to it. That’s why even vaccinated and boosted individuals need to wear masks in public. The vaccine protects oneself. The masks protect oneself AND others!

the vaccinated chose to be vaccinated so they could get on with their lives. The unvaccinated chose not too but want everyone to put their lives on hold so they can live, sorry not sorry.

Funny how cases spite everytime they get a shipment of vaccines. No lie look back and u see each time a shipment of vaccine comes in the number start jumping out hats like magicial rabbits. If the global leaders care about the ppl they would work to put an end to this plague and not enhance the pockets of tge greedy and wicked ppl and evil sciencist . Wake up ppl yes nothing a small man can do but its that same statement why so many innocent ppl die from men driven dieases. Check the reality of the world we leave in its crazy. A group back by governments and court can cerate something that kills millions but you take it on yourself to do the same and your arrested and jailed. The world is a messy place

It is we the locals that is responsible for spreading the virus. Pass four of them in my village sitting under a tree up in each other faces no mask, no distance From each other nothing. If my garden hose could have reach the distance I would have sprayed them down. What is so damn hard about wearing a mask and staying out of each other faces? If you want to be up in each other faces, common sense should tell you to at least wear a mask over your mouth and nose, not below your nose or mouth on your chin.
  • Living (29/12/2021, 12:34) Like (1) Dislike (10) Reply
Why do unvaccinated people run to get tested and to the hospitals? We no longer have humanity in the world. Over 200k people have died this year because they refuse to get vaccinated. We all know we had to be vaccinated growing up. I want to live to take care of my child so I will do whatever it takes. Stop listening to people on the street and speak to medical professionals. Get vaccinated and wear mask properly. One love!
