COVID protocols to be further relaxed but Easter events will be monitored- Hon Malone
The Minister was at the time speaking during a COVID-19 update recorded on February 18, 2022, and released by Government Information Service (GIS) yesterday, February 21, 2022.
“We know that we are coming into a season of Easter festival activities, into the festivals, and we will be monitoring this, because come first of March, I am sure that we will be able to look at whatever remanding protocols that we have… and we have to be just careful,” he said.
Hon Malone said more relaxations will come when the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) gives Cabinet a number of circumstances under which authorities can continue to relax the protocols.
Most protocols relaxed - Hon Malone
“In fact, we have relaxed most of them. The common sense of wearing a mask is still being observed and we want to continue this until we see exactly where we go.”
The Minister said; however, that persons must continue to keep young children, and golden gems-a nickname for the elderly- safe.
“So our word to you is quite simple. We are not out of the woods. We have to be vigilant. We have to be careful. We have to be the keepers of our golden gems, keepers of our small kids.
Hon Malone also said he is not satisfied with the rate at which the booster shots are going, “but we will continue to pitch the message that boosters save lives also, boosters reduce hospitalisation also,” he added.
The VI has since lifted its territory-wide curfew; however, mask adherence and social distance requirements remain in place.
