ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With the Virgin Islands (VI) currently having some 143 active COVID-19 cases as of December 24, 2021, Acting Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr Ronald E. Geroges has indicated that cases have been appearing in clusters around the territory.

“Clusters of cases have been associated with schools, daycares, private and government offices, large and small companies, social gatherings, and events,” he said in a statement released yesterday, December 24, 2021.

Premier & Deputy tests positive

So far, both Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) and Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, Culture, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) have both tested positive for the virus.

Dr Georges added, “While the main tools of our control and suppression measures in the past have been curfews, business restrictions and lockdowns, Government policy has moved away from these drastic measures as vaccination rates have increased to just over 60 percent.”

The CMO underscored that in the VI, however, the Delta variant appears to be outcompeting Mu for dominance, as has occurred in other jurisdictions.

He said current vaccine options offer good protection against severe disease, hospitalization and death associated with Delta infection and residents should therefore avail themselves of opportunities to be either vaccinated or receive their booster dose.

VI cognisant of Omicron varient

“We have to be cognisant of the appearance of the Omicron variant in many countries around the world and its inevitable entrance into the Virgin Islands.”

Dr Georges indicated that the Omicron variant does appear to cause milder disease and vaccines do appear to offer protection against severe disease, hospitalization, and death.

He reminded that the Fahie Government through the support of the UK Government has made vaccination and now boosters available in the Territory and added that given the increased COVID activity in the Territory, all residents are asked to continue to be vigilant and abide by the established public health measures, such as:

  1. Limit your exposure to persons outside of your household
  2. Adhere to the public health protocols
    1. Do wear your mask at all times when within 6 feet of persons
    2. Wash your hands regularly or use hand sanitizers
    3. Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from persons outside your household
  3. If you are sick isolate and get tested as soon as possible
  4. If you are positive stay away from others for at least 10 full days and abide by the terms of your quarantine order
  5. If your condition worsens do seek medical attention early.
  6. Get vaccinated with either your first or second dose and if you are three months after your last dose and are eligible get your booster

I have noticed numerous times that politicians are always posing for pictures in groups and hardly see any wearing masks or social distancing. They are smiling shoulder to shoulder. How can they preach to us when they themselves are not following safety measures. No wonder everything has gone haywire. After tomorrow which is boxing day and there are many events going on, after that everyone should just stop, tuck and roll to be safe. Stay home, stop mingling in groups, wear your damn masks and social distance. As you can see, even our leaders who have been vaccinated and boostered up are catching it. No one knows what is going on because this virus is man-made and new to everyone, so they really don't know how to treat it. We are the guinea pigs for future generations to come, like it or not, but you all had better use common sense with this variant and protect ourselves the best we can. I am so sick of people bragging they are fully vaccinated as if they cannot get and spread the virus. As they can see, they have nothing to brag about. How do we know they will be less affected because they are vaccinated? We have never encountered a man-made virus like this one. I just hope all of the jabs are not slowly killing us. Just use your heads and stop the partying until we can get a grasp on this one. Be smart, stay safe and Happy Holidays, and hopefully Happy New Year.

Behold, that peculiar BVI creature known as the anti-vaxxer, pro-masker, who thinks vaccine mandates are dangerous tyranny but that forcing everyone to wear a dirty cloth over their face indefinitely is A-OK. News flash: Neither one of them prevents you from getting Covid, and government has no right to force you to do either one. The virus will be here forever. Feel free to do whatever you want, but the rest of us are moving on.

We already know next year it’s the next phase of the agenda. Some are still sleeping but a lot of us are awake and many more are waking up. Whether people were sick or not yall wanted the public to attend all the latest events to then say y’all are infected. Knowing damn well people were prone to get sick during the flu season and they would come in for the false testing. Y’all said I was sick last year when I didn’t even have a snuffy nose. Tell me what’s really going on here. Lies and more lies can’t be trusted

Thanks Dr. Ronald E. Georges for these needed information. I hope that we would disapline ourselves and act wisely. But on the contrary political Doctor pretend, Hon. Andrew Fahie, Premier, and political Dr Natalie should that leaders need to lead by example, so that those they lead may not become Covid-19 virus positive, as they are now.
What Merry Christmas can they wish us when in fact they refused to practice common sense?
This should be clearly understood that persons that have, and are continuing refusing to act with caution, and follow the value of good protocol, prayers will not work meracles for them. Good governance the say.

@ So what. You are an idiot! You are rolling the dice too injecting crap into your body without knowing the harsh side effects later. As we can see, you don't know if you are protected from serious illnesses because no one knows. So how about you allow everyone to live their lives without making an asinine statement.

Where did you get your information from? Please explain. I can almost guarantee if you are in a supermarket and someone without a mask start coughing and sneezing and that someone announce he/she has COVID, you will be the first one running to the nearest EXIT.

How many fully vaccinated are in the hospital. When they were unvaccinated you used to publish it. Time longer than twine. The agenda is to hide the truth and publish the lies. Take a vaccine that don’t work. Then take a second vaccine because the first didn’t work. Then take a third because the second didn’t work. But to be vaccinated you have to take all those what didn’t work.
    Make that make sense

    @ Tell us

They won't publish it as it does not suit their agenda. Sad but true. This is not about saving lives, science or public health but big pharma money and politics. All i want to know is what treatments are being used on the hospitalized? Especially now that the vaccinated are regularly being hospitalized.

Why are they continuing with this flawed one dimensional vaccination approach?
