COVID-19 keeps away the usual VI crowds for Super Bowl Sunday
It was also Brady’s first year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and making history by being part of the first team to appear in a Super Bowl in its home stadium -- and accomplishing all of this in a pandemic.
It was Tampa Bay's second title, and it caps an NFL season unlike any before it, with Super Bowl LV taking place in front of a crowd of just 24,835 and roughly 30,000 cardboard cutouts of fans.
Brady’s seventh Super Bowl extends the mark for the most by any player.
According to CNN, that total is more than any NFL team, as his former team, the New England Patriots, and the Pittsburgh Steelers each have six. It was his 10th Super Bowl appearance, also the most of all time.
Sparse crowd @ local sports bars
As expected the usual large and vocal crowd at various sports bars across the territory for Super Bowl Sunday was missing, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing measures and other protocols in place for business establishments.
A handful of persons watched the game at Foxy’s on Jost van Dyke and it was a similar sparse crowd at sports bars on Virgin Gorda and Anegada, according to reports reaching our newsroom.
Patrons won prizes @ Aroma’s
Aroma’s Cigar & Martini Bar on Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park and Captain Mulligans on Nanny Cay were two of the place on Tortola that saw die-hard football fans in attendance.
At Aroma’s, patrons viewed the Super Bowl on big screen in the lounge and on the balcony, while enjoying $10 Bucket Specials on Bud Light with chances to win prizes with each purchase.
“The turnout was decent but obviously not as big as the usual Super Bowl watch parties due to the ongoing COVID issues,” Mr Sean J. Palmer of Aroma’s Cigar & Martini Bar told VINO.
Meanwhile, as part of Aroma’s Super Bowl promotion powered by Caribbean Cellars and Bud Light, a patron won a 55’ Smart TV.
