COVID-19 curfew lifted; Social distancing in place for events

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Authorities in the Virgin Islands (V) have removed that national COVID-19 curfew, however, persons hosting events will still be required to ensure the public health guidelines are followed.

Governor John J. Rankin, CMG in exercising the powers conferred by section 3, together with section 4 of the Curfew Act, 2017 (No. 20 of 2017) revoked the excising curfew order.

The order will take effect from tomorrow, Saturday, October 16, 2021, and more amendments also came to the existing public health order for COVID-19 control.

Meanwhile, Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL), according to the COVID-19 Control and Suppression Measures (No.4) (Amendment) (No.10) Order, 2021, has placed no restrictions on gatherings except in the case of an event.

Event gatherings restricted by numbers 

“The organizers of an event and the proprietors of the premises hosting the event shall ensure (a) that the physical distancing protocols and sanitization measures are adhered to,” the order said.

The attendance at the event is also being restricted to no more than one person per nine square feet unless otherwise approved by the Minister for Health and Social Development.

The order was clear that events also include social occasions or activities, including parties, festivals, or organized sporting events.

    To late with the distance and limitation last week at ups cinema had a large crowd that the big man in the white house attented no social distancing i guess the rules only for us.

      The „large crowd“ was limited to 100 when the room could hold over 300! The „white man“ the governor sponsored it and 3,500.00 were raised for the BVI Cancer Society. May be it is your wife, mother or another loved one who‘s life might be saved with the help of the cancer society

      I agree with your comment. That has got to be one of the stupidest things so far. I guess only Tortola came up with the 3 feet apart thing. Laughing stocks.     Last week he was talking about Field Hospital, this week, curfew lifted, 3 feet apart rather than 6. I choose to continue staying 6 feet apart. People, please start thinking for yourselves and stop listening to someone who has no training or qualifications in the medical field. If I was a real Doctor, I would be pissed.     I'm glad that the curfew is lifted but at the same time ... we are not out of the woods yet. The reason i'm saying this is because when situations happens like this we tend to forget all about distancing protocols and thinking we are covid free and all is well. Covid free or not we must continue to adhear to social distancing. If we continue to do our part we can then resume back slowly to a place of normalcy.
