Convicted prisoners plead not guilty to possession of narcotics
The both pleaded not guilty to the offence, which was allegedly committed on November 9, 2011 at Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsum Ghut. The cannabis, the court heard, amounted to 48.4 grams and carries a street value of $484.
The court heard that on Wednesday November 9, 2011, prison officers were conducting random cell searches on the C wing of the prison when it was observed that a bag was thrown out of the window from Cell # 207, which the defendants share. The bag, which was described as a clear zip-lock bag, allegedly contained “brownish vegetable-like matter” and a Nokia cell phone and charger.
The prosecution also stated that only inmate Henley was inside the prison at the time.
Magistrate Richards was told that the substance needed to be tested and that the Analyst was expected in the Territory in the second week of December. She then ordered the men to return to court on January 16, 2012 for report.
Mr. Parsons is serving life imprisonment for the murder of Tristan Industrious Todman, which occurred in 2004, while Mr. Henley is serving time for possession of forged currency.
