Controversial Cindy Rosan to run for office as Independent-At-Large
She is expected to run as an independent At-Large candidate and has pledged to friends that, if she wins a seat in the House of Assembly (HoA), she will never join the ruling Virgin Islands Party (VIP).
It is unclear when she will make an official announcement and what her platform will entail. Ms Rosan has built a negative reputation of using her social media platforms to go after those in the Territory she hates.
Hate speech?
Ms Rosan has targeted with hate speech and disrespectful public comments, via her social media platforms, the Premier and Seventh District Representative Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley, the At Large Member and Junior Minister Hon Lorna G. Smith, OBE (many said after they fell out), and former Speaker of the HoA and Businessman Mr Julian Willock.
She has gone after many others with public disrespectful criticism, including senior public officers, members of the Judiciary, other members of the HoA and other media houses.
A few months ago, Rosan faced backlash when the family of a deceased young man who was shot to death on Tortola asked that she remove the video clip of the shooting from her tabloid, as it was painful for the family to watch. She refused and continues to be insensitive to these types of requests, claiming freedom of the press.
An Activist turned politician?
Ms Rosan said she is an activist and that she will always speak out on matters relating to the Virgin Islands. It is unclear what she brings to the table as a candidate and if she will moderate her public disposition and seek to bring people together, instead of continuing her divisive rhetoric and disrespectful public utterances. She is a big fan of Sixth District Representative Hon Myron V. Walwyn.
She once said that former Premier Andrew A Fahie should be executed for his court case involving money laundering and cocaine matter in the United States. Many residents found this statement to be very offensive.
It is unclear if Ms Rosan, who did not respond to our request for comment, is capable of toning down and being a candidate that can unite rather than divide.
