EAST END, Tortola, VI- Word reaching our news headquarters from multiple sources familiar with the matter is that controversial talk show host and owner of a local tabloid, Rosemary Lucinda Rosan, aka 'Cindy' will seek political office in the 2027 general elections.

She is expected to run as an independent At-Large candidate and has pledged to friends that, if she wins a seat in the House of Assembly (HoA), she will never join the ruling Virgin Islands Party (VIP).

It is unclear when she will make an official announcement and what her platform will entail. Ms Rosan has built a negative reputation of using her social media platforms to go after those in the Territory she hates.

Hate speech?

Ms Rosan has targeted with hate speech and disrespectful public comments, via her social media platforms, the Premier and Seventh District Representative Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley, the At Large Member and Junior Minister Hon Lorna G. Smith, OBE (many said after they fell out), and former Speaker of the HoA and Businessman Mr Julian Willock.

She has gone after many others with public disrespectful criticism, including senior public officers, members of the Judiciary, other members of the HoA and other media houses.

A few months ago, Rosan faced backlash when the family of a deceased young man who was shot to death on Tortola asked that she remove the video clip of the shooting from her tabloid, as it was painful for the family to watch. She refused and continues to be insensitive to these types of requests, claiming freedom of the press.

An Activist turned politician?

Ms Rosan said she is an activist and that she will always speak out on matters relating to the Virgin Islands. It is unclear what she brings to the table as a candidate and if she will moderate her public disposition and seek to bring people together, instead of continuing her divisive rhetoric and disrespectful public utterances. She is a big fan of Sixth District Representative Hon Myron V. Walwyn.

She once said that former Premier Andrew A Fahie should be executed for his court case involving money laundering and cocaine matter in the United States. Many residents found this statement to be very offensive.

It is unclear if Ms Rosan, who did not respond to our request for comment, is capable of toning down and being a candidate that can unite rather than divide.

Doesn’t she suggest that she is going to stand every election and then back out.

She does have the right to run just like any of us, but that doesn't guarantee she will win any votes. Don't panic, just wait for the outcome. That is all any of us can do.

Running for public office requires a level of temperament, responsibility, and respect for others that goes beyond activism or media commentary. Cindy Rosan is widely known for confrontational rhetoric, personal attacks, and an often divisive approach to public discourse. While speaking out on issues is important in a democracy, leadership demands the ability to unite people, respect institutions, and show empathy, especially in sensitive situations. Voters will rightly question whether someone who has repeatedly shown little regard for these principles is prepared to serve all Virgin Islanders in a constructive and dignified way. If she intends to enter politics, a clear shift in tone and conduct would be essential.

Universal Suffrage was attained in 1954, so Cindy as any other Virgin Islander who meet the qualifications have the constitutional right to stand for elected office. On the other hand , as candidates have the right to stand for office, so too does the electorate have the right, having evaluate and assess the candidates, vote for the five ( district, 4 at large) candidates of their choice. Controversial? Politics is not for either choir boys or girls. It is a rough and tumble sport. People who can’t bear the heat should keep out the kitchen. Are there not electioneering laws? If those laws are violated the violator should bear the consequences. Further, libel and slander laws are on the books for use by those who feel they were aggrieved.

The General Election is constitutionally in 2027 or sooner. Calling the election sooner is the prerogative of Dr. Hon Premier Natalio Wheatley, R-7, MoF. The playing field needs to be level.

Moreover, lots of people will have feelers out for running election. The compensation package, ie, substantial pay increase for elected members will incentivize more people to run or consider running. Nonetheless, nomination day is the decider, ie, people have to cut bait or fish. The thought of one losing one’s deposit drive many to think twice.. in the meantime let’s ignore the ground noise. Instead pay attention to the signal, the real, noise.

@RU, yes, every Virgin Islander who meets the requirements has the constitutional right to stand for election. I like how you say voters have the right choose who they want..But as the Anguillans say, “ Ah yu lawd. You keeping real and encouraging people..

There are ongoing concerns about Cindy’s ability to maintain professionalism and clear boundaries in a workplace or public-facing role. Professional environments require emotional discipline, respect for differing perspectives, and the ability to separate personal feelings from decision-making.

There are perhaps 5000 decent, educated, competent virgin islanders of reasonable age and experience, who supposedly care about the BVI and its future, who are fair minded and have a world view, who CAN contribute meaningfully to the VI's continuing development and who can be trusted to protect our interests. THEY, unlike the perhaps thousands of immigrants, belongers and non-generationals and BV Islanders with expat lineage and parents may well continue to WATCH and take NO active role , but prefer to sit and privately criticize successive governments, watch the decline, suffer the collective indignities and wallow in the sludge of the status quo's effluent. VI is just beginning to enact policies and legislation which Caribbean islands put in place in the 80s and 90s ....but its hard to recognize and adopt the policies of countries which you see as inferior. we continue to give part supporters major contracts to build inferior infrastructure and homes which we cannot afford, reject Billionaire investors in favor of broke sports personalities with BVI connections. we continue to give cronies contracts to bring in sub-prime equipment which never work- then revert to giving the biggest contracts ever to the people the government equipment was meant to avoid paying huge contract fees. W e give tens-of-million-dollar contracts to broke companies which then need government to back them to get loans. we continue to sympathize with local offenders because they have our last names, went to school with us, cause we marry their friends and cousins. we are upset when the outsiders and the British have to come and show us best practice and 64 points of Mal-administration - BUT WE CAN NEITHER SAY THEY ARE WRONG NOR CAN WE BE BRAVE ENOUGH TO SEE OUR OWN FLAWS AND BE BRAVE ENOUGH AS A PEOPLE AND CULTURE TO CHALLENGE OUR OWN PEOPLE TO DE BETTER . We continue to defy progress with political expediency. its like the kidnapped developing sympathies for the kidnapper. Yeahhh, they're wrong AF and they suck ...but he / she is on ah WEEEEE. LOL. BVI ppl need to wake up , grow some pairs . Perhaps we will yet see that the silent majority can find voice and strength in numbers- evolve the culture of silence and unintended complicity. love your brothers and sisters by compelling them to de better for mutual benefits. wake up, people. stand up.

Disagreement is the essence of politics. Conflict is the sine qua non of politics; if there is no conflict, there is no politics. Mao Zedong, “shrewdly observed politics is war without bloodshed; a means of resolving conflicts without recourse to violence.” The common agreement is to agree to tolerate difference , so politics is the art of compromise. Nevertheless, in spite of disagreement, differences, conflicts, etc., elected members must be patriotic, working for the best interest of the electorate. They must work cooperatively to establish laws and build institutions on the base on which order and justice operates. Every Virgin Islander meeting the minimum requirements set by the constitution has a right to stand for elected office. . However, who makes it first pass the poll is up to voters, the electorate. The electorate has the true power and must engage and use it effectively. The Virgin Islands ( British) are at a crossroad, an inflection point,,etc..

@E. Leonard, the BVI community has minimum standards, expectations, and behavior for those desiring to seek political office. Your blob, reading between the lines, is offering an off rank for Ms. Rosan and others. Hopefully, they will take it. Furthermore your definition of politics as being about conflict, disagreement, etc, is encouraging controversial, disagreeable, etc behavior.
