BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- A contract has been signed with E&K Construction for a new social home in Baughers Bay, as the Ministry of Health and Social Development delivers on its commitment to support vulnerable residents across the Virgin Islands.

Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) shared his thoughts on the significance of the project, stating that he was particularly pleased about this contract as he is familiar with the gentleman, Mr Marvin Malone, who is the recipient of the project.

Honourable Wheatley, according to a Government Information Service (GIS) press release, said: “He has waited many, many years for this to happen. So, I am very happy to finally see the signing of this contract and to get the project moving. The contractor, E&K Construction, has a strong record in building social homes quickly. We anticipate Mr Malone could be cutting the ribbon and receiving his keys for his new home soon.”

'Not just building houses but changing lives'- Enos Z. Aaron

Mr Enos Z. Aaron of E&K Trucking and Construction Services Limited expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to such an important initiative.

“It is always good to know that the government can step in to help those in need, and I am honoured that my company can play a part in that. I love working with the ministry and knowing that we are building not just houses—but changing lives—makes it all worthwhile.”

The social home initiative is part of the Government of the Virgin Islands broader mandate to improve the quality of life for residents in need, particularly the elderly and vulnerable by ensuring access to safe and secure housing.

So they've all assisted those in need. What you don't see is that this place is losing the little reputation it had with this clueless government.

How does this work. Does the individual get the land and home free and clear? Does the social home go to another person in need if Mr Malone no longer is going to live in the home? What is the criteria for a social home?

I appreciate the project. But a man who never give a piece of charity to the community and never lay a block in his life, gets a construction job. Other applicants has to prove that they are capable and went to school to get such trade license, but here is a man who can’t read the blue print of a construction plan. WOW
