Contestants tap in on invaluable experiences for Earth Pageant
On June 30, 2013, three young ladies - contestant #1 Jaidene Webb, #2 Shona Rogers and #3 Kimberly Herbert - will be hitting the stage at the Paragon (upstairs of DHL), not just to showcase their beautiful bodies, exquisite outfits and eloquent speech, but rather they would be presenting themselves to the Virgin Islands as three young ladies with experience that can see them impacting the environment in a positive way.
Speaking with Virgin Islands News Online, Pageant Coordinator Riiva Williams said the committee has been faced with a number of hurdles along the way but so far has been managing well to cross safely.
"What is unique and worth every bit of the energies that we are putting into this is the fact that its not just a pageant but an experience that allows the contestants to be out there and meet and interact with other young girls who have a passion for matters of environmental issues and its conservation in general," Ms Williams said.
She added that since coming together, the three contestants have participated in a number of activities, some of which include a fundraiser which was held at Village Cay, the Parade for the Planet event and most significantly they have been attached to the Conservation and Fisheries Department.
"At Conservation and Fisheries the contestants have had great experiences. They have been out to two beaches so far with the experts to participate in water testing exercises," said Ms Williams. The testing was done at the Josiah's Bay and Cane Garden Bay beaches.
This Friday evening, June 14, 2013 the contestants will be at the Bamboushay Lounge for their second fundraiser, "Pennies for the Planet", where they are hoping to beat the $500 that was raised at the first event.
Currently, the young ladies have been focusing on pageant training under the guidance of their individual chaperones as June 30, 2013 is just around the corner.
Tickets are already out for sale and can purchased from any of the three contestants, as well as Ms Riiva Williams and Ms Jasmine Perez.

will their beauty help them stop pollution or come up with programmes to educate the public?
What does one beautiful body contribute over the brain power of solving a problem? I am so tired of these pageants sending out the wrong message that the only way to get ahead is using your looks and not your brain.... I would take short, fat, ugly, glasses any day if they had the smarts to contribute to saving the environment and getting people involved.
