Constable Mitchel John hailed as 'face' of RVIPF Community Policing Initiative

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Constable in the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), Mitchel John, was given special recognition for outstanding performance as a community Policing Officer when the RVIPF had a commendation ceremony and its first in-personal general force meeting since the Commissioner of Police, Mr Mark Collins took office in April of this year.

The initiative, which also coupled with the organisation’s thanksgiving luncheon, were attended by His Excellency the Governor John J. Rankin CMG and the Deputy Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) who both gave brief remarks.

Both the Governor and Deputy Premier expressed their gratitude for the continued work of the Force in sometimes difficult circumstances and gave their support for future development.

Commissioner Collins commended the officers and staff for their efforts during a difficult year.

Challenging year for RVIPF- CoP Collins

“This has been challenging year for the Force with the untimely death of Sergeant Algon Smikle and several unfortunate arrests. Yet, I saw impressive work from so many members of this organisation during my seven months in the post. I am looking forward to working alongside you to making the working conditions and environment one that supports you and the growth of the organisation”, he stated.

According to an RVIPF press release on November 30, 2021, Collins used the opportunity to address matters of concern to the officers such as increments, official duty, station expansion and recruitment.

At the Commendation Ceremony, approximately 115 officers and civilian staff were recognised for their work beyond the call of duty during the 2020 - 2021 work year, under the categories of Exemplary Policing, Meritorious Conduct, Exemplary Service and Excellent Customer Service.

'The face of RVIPF Community Policing'

Special recognition was also given to Constable Mitchel John for his outstanding performance as a community Policing Officer.

According to the RVIPF, since joining the RVIPF, John has quickly become the face of the RVIPF’s Community Policing Initiative.

The recognition ceremony was followed by the annual thanksgiving luncheon as a thank you to the staff for their hard work throughout the year.

    Congratulations to all officers and the RVIPF family. Despite the negative publicity, I am glad to read this positive report regarding the RVIPF family. Of course there will be bad eggs in every organization and structure, that is what makes us human, but keep praising the good ones and motivate them to remain good.
