ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Drivers traveling along the main road in Road Town yesterday May 29, 2012, were victims of traffic congestion as a result of work being carried out to repair the road in the vicinity of the roundabout next to the Wickhams Cay service station.

A Government official told this news site that the work being carried out is as a result of complaints that were received from the public regarding the condition of the road in the vicinity of the roundabout.

In regards to the road construction being done during the midday rush hour traffic which led to traffic congestion yesterday, the official stated that there was no valid reason for that, as orders were just being followed.

The official further stated that the road was being repaired from the excess dirt that was accumulated at the roundabout.

“The trench was filled to the capacity with dirt, in order to properly smooth the road we had to remove the dirt in order to get even layers of concrete and asphalt.”

He stated that this was done because of complaints coming from the public in regards to the uneven road and the possible damages that can be caused to their vehicles.

Another factor that also contributed to the repairs of the road is the June 4, 2012 Queen’s birthday celebration. “So we are just trying to get the place tidy and clean.”

Efforts were made to contact the Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Mark Vanterpool along with the Director and Deputy at Public Works Department, which were all unsuccessful.

There is one down at Hannahs Public Road that also needs some attention. Same as at the roundabout, that one was also filled with dirt and the dirt is disappearing. Please, it is a burden on our shocks and a pain to our pockets. We need that one fixed as soon as possible.
