Commerce House evacuated after fire alarm triggered

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Work in Commerce House, a 4-story office complex in Road Town, came to a halt this morning, March 8, 2023, when the building was evacuated after a fire alarm went off.

According to reports reaching our newsroom, it was around 1:00 PM that the incident occurred.

Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service Officers were called to the scene; however, there was reportedly no actual fire.

Aerosol fumes activated fire alarm

Our newsroom was reliably informed that the fire alarm system was activated by aerosol fumes.

Persons were eventually safely returned to the building.

Described by some as the home of leading professional firms, Commerce House is said to feature all modern amenities, including elevator, fire suppression, lightning protection, monitored security and more.

According to commercehousebvi.com, the approximately 35,000 square feet of rental space includes Fire escapes and fire-fighting equipment, including a sprinkler system and smoke sensors in public spaces.

    It always looks like it needs repainting - ever since it was first built. I think that there must be something wrong with its outside finishing. Shame, because the other modern buildings close to it look so much better.

    Efflorescence staining caused by Salt being washed out of the substrate, cause unwashed/under washed sea sand used in construction at some point .
