ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- At least 38 mm (1.5 inches) of rain has been recorded in the Virgin Islands (VI) in the past 24 hours, and more rain is likely today, February 3, 2026, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) stated in its 5:00 AM update.

It said unstable weather conditions are affecting the Territory due to the passing of a cold front.

“These conditions are producing strong winds, high seas and persistent rainfall,” DDM stated.

The Department said an additional 13-38 mm (0.5-1.5 inches) of rain is possible today.

Marine conditions have been deemed hazardous for small vessels, and a high tide warning remains in effect.

The public is urged to stay informed with official weather and disaster management updates, and to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain or strong gusts.

Power outages & cancellation of ferry services

Meanwhile, the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) has alerted the public that several communities are without power due to multiple feeders being affected.

BVIEC said its teams are actively investigating the issue and working to restore power as soon as possible.

And Speedy's Ferry Services has cancelled all ferry services between Virgin Gorda, Road Town, and Beef Island for the remainder of today, Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

"The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority. We have been monitoring the conditions closely and have determined that it is not safe to operate today’s scheduled trips. We will continue to monitor the weather and will communicate immediately if there are any changes regarding service for tomorrow," Speedy's stated.
