ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Pastor of the New Life Baptist Church in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola, Bishop John I. Cline said the current United Kingdom (UK) sponsored Virgin Islands (VI) Commission of Inquiry (CoI) has caused a ‘great divide’ amongst the people of the territory.

In the June 22, 2021, edition of ‘My BVI’, an online panel discussion, Bishop Cline said the divide is along the lines of those who are for the government, and those who are against it.

Rejoice now, weep later - Bishop Cline

Bishop Cline; however, warned that those who are rejoicing now, should also be prepared for the outcome of the Inquiry, “Let us be careful what you wish for, because while you may rejoice in the night, you may weep in the morning,” he said.

THe Bishop, an outspoken community leader, had previously said that the UK should expect ‘stiff resistance’ should they try to takeover the VI or take over the government.

“We have clearly stated that we do not wish to even go back to what looks like a hint of colonialism [or] pseudo colonialism or you come in under the name of good governance and say you are taking over,” he said on the April 27, 2021, edition of My BVI.

The Bishop hinted that any attempt of the UK to take over would be seen as colonial masters raising their hands again and finding a loophole to do that.

UK taking over VI not an option - Bishop Cline

He; however, stated that coming out of the CoI, the institutions of governance and the practices of Legislators will be streamlined.

“While I am all for that [Good Governance], I am not for us to regress to the place where I see the United Kingdom become the masters of our government, the leaders of our Government institutions and take control of our government,” he said,

Sometimes you have to pull down to build up. I however see it the other way Bishop. We are weeping now we will rejoice later.

COI yes, UK take over no. We as a people will be idiots to just sit back and allow the UK Government to suspend our Constitution. Are we that brainwashed or just plan stupid and ignorant. I want transparency and accountability but I don’t want the UK to take control of our Territory.

The only divide is between those making money out of corruption and those who are honest.

That divide needs to happen and the corrupt to be penalised.

The UK taking over the BVI is not an option!! This Inquiry may point out all the flaws of those things which we knew and others that were hidden but knowing is only half the battle. Right now the spotlight is on us not just the Government. We have some things that they want but don't let the bright light that's on us blind us from seeing them trying to sneak in the back door. There is more in the mortar than the pestle

It look like the Clines eat ayo white fowl and the eggs to.
It amazes me that some people hate the present government so much that they would go to any lengths to have the white man rule over us again!
Corruption is wrong and it’s been in government for years and years. Think way way back to all our former governments.
I’m not a VIP follower but I think they’re doing the best they can. I think a few things could have been done differently but that don’t mean they’re more corrupt than anyone gone before.

@bvi to the bone If the UK wants to take over there is nothing you, John I. Cline or the government can do about it. end of that story.

The UK doesn’t want to take over, that’s an incredibly expensive exercise that they could really do without. I see them making much needed changes for a better BVI. The future is bright!

Listening to Ms Webster's (the Auditor General) evidence regarding Religious Institutions, I am weary of these church groups and so called holy men. They are all either feckless or "in on it". This one needs to go sit down.
