CoI bars Silk Legal from making oral closing submissions
The Commission, in a press release today, November 11, 2021, said it is the Commissioner’s intention to deal with all outstanding evidential matters, and any final oral submissions, on November 24, 2021.
Additionally, the Commission said Silk Legal, representing Members of the House of Assembly (HoA) who are not Ministers, will not be allowed to give oral closing submissions.
According to the CoI, at a hearing on October 22, 2021, the Commissioner issued a number of directions to ensure the completion of all outstanding evidential matters and granted a number of extensions of time for compliance with those directions.
Silk Legal shut out
“Silk Legal on behalf of the Members of the House of Assembly (except the elected Ministers and the Attorney General) have neither submitted a list of any matters upon which they wish to make closing submissions as required by the Commissioner’s 22 October 2021 Order, nor have they applied for an extension of time to do so. Similarly, they have neither filed submissions in relation to the Sea Cows Bay Project (which they previously indicated they may wish to do), nor sought an extension of time.
“In the circumstances, Silk Legal will not be permitted to make oral closing submissions,” the Commission stated.
Silk Legal’s Richard G. Rowe; however, told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) that the firm was not seeking to make oral closing submissions.
“We were not intending to...Hon. [Julian] Fraser had responded directly on the Sea Cows Project making the same points we intended to make,” Mr Rowe said.
