Club owner accused of rape, assault & threat to kill granted $80K bail

PURCELL ESTATE, Tortola, VI- Gabriel James aka ‘Junior’, 44, of Purcell Estate was granted $80,000 bail with signed surety when he appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on several charges, including rape, yesterday, January 23, 2023.

James, the proprietor of a popular nightclub on Tortola, is charged with four counts of rape, one count of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm and one count of Threat of Kill, according to Police Information Officer Diane L. Drayton.

The accused was not required to plea when the matter was held in-camera.

He was; however, granted bail but ordered to not make any contact with the virtual complainant, who is said to be an expatriate woman.

James, who is represented by attorney E. Leroy James, is to return to court on March 29, 2023.
