ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Come the new year, the public will be required to pay more for services offered by the Civil Registry and Passport Office.

It was on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, that the Civil Registry and Passport Office advised the public that “pursuant to the passage of the Registration and Births and Deaths Act, 2021, there will be an increase in fees commencing January 3, 2023.”

It said, for further details, individuals could visit bvi.gov.vg or contact the Civil Registry at 468-3035.

There was no mention of the amount of increase and no such information was provided on the government website that the public is being directed to.

The Registration and Births and Deaths Act, 2021 repealed and replaced the Registration of Births and Deaths Ordinance, (Cap. 276), which had been in existence for over sixty years.

The Act also sought to modernise the Territory’s procedures with respect to the registration of births and deaths, and enable computerisation of the notification and registration process.

The Civil Registry and Passport is located on the First Floor, Sakal Place, #286 Walter James Francis Drive, Wickham's Cay.

Maybe they can finally afford a proper visa printing machine too, imaging paying over $200 for a visa that gets emailed to you and you have to go home and print on a copy paper. Let's not mention how it takes over 1 month sometimes to process a renewal for someone on Island. Oh You Love to See It!
