ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Financial services firm CITCO today October 15, 2014 held an event called ‘Paint CITCO Pink’ to mark Cancer Awareness Month and as part of the event the company made a donation of an undisclosed amount to the BVI Cancer Society.

The event took place at CITCO’s offices in Road Town and workers of the firm participated by wearing pink.

The highlight of the event was a presentation by President of the BVI Cancer Society Gloria A. Fahie who gave a heart rending account of the experiences she had in terms of coming to grips and then dealing with the disease.

“I told the world I had cancer,” she said, recounting how she confronted the disease and her new reality and outlook towards life. She said that it should not be a stigma and something to be ashamed of to be diagnosed with the dreaded disease.

“The more we share experiences the better it will be for [us],” Fahie said. She urged cancer patients to be strong and know that they have support.

“Whatever is a negative in your life you could make it into a positive,” she encouraged.

Fahie also urged people to watch the foods they eat and not to be afraid of getting their hands dirty to grow their own healthy and wholesome foods. She also urged persons to watch what their children eat.

At the end of her presentation, Fahie on behalf of the BVI Cancer Society received a cheque from Managing Director of CITCO Salemon S. Weyers.
