CIL & Miss World BVI reaches out to ‘Have A Heart’ Foundation
In furtherance of its effort to focus heavily on the “Beauty With a Purpose” mantra of the organisation the Miss World BVI Committee, and its Philanthropic Partner Caribbean Insurers LTD made the presentation to Ms Eileen Bourke, Founder of the Have A Heart Foundation. The presentation was done at Mi Amor jewelry store in the capital city, Road Town.
Have A Heart was established in January this year in response to a need that Ms Burke identified, according to a press release from the Miss World BVI Organisation today, March 30, 2017.
While explaining her decision the Founder said: "In a visit to the home I realised it's not just about giving the children clothes and food, I wanted to see what they need. While we know that the government does a lot, they can't do everything, and so we are doing our part to help the wonderful occupants and staff of the Rainbow Children's Home...The money will go towards the purchase of a brand new stove. It is badly needed and it will be purchased locally so that they can have a warranty."
Since its inception the Foundation has been hard at work trying to meet the need that prompted its establishment: “The Have A Heart foundation has already done some work to improve the aesthetics of the home by replacing the windows of the home and will move on to repairing the fans, gardening and provide much needed supplies to the children of the home,” the Founder mentioned.
Diamond necklace to be won in fundraiser
In order to fund the identified projects, the Foundation will be collaborating with Mi Amor jewelry store to conduct a raffle to raise money. In support, persons can go to the Mi Amor store in Road Town to make a contribution, monetary or in kind. Names will be entered for a chance to win a beautiful diamond heart necklace worth $2500.00. The raffle will run through to December this year.
Damion C. Grange, Chair of the Miss World BVI Committee while explaining the decision to make the presentation pointed out that the noble nature of the Foundation appealed not only to the Miss World BVI organisation, but it’s philanthropic partner CIL as well: "The DNA of our organisation is Philanthropy, and so when we heard about the initiative, we knew we wanted to be a part of it. We particularly liked the fact that the impact is immediate, as the contribution goes to addressing the current needs of the Rainbow Children's Home.”
Over the years Caribbean Insurers continues to exhibit good corporate citizenship by supporting various community focused initiatives. The company is very touched by the efforts of the Have A Heart Foundation and Brian W. Jermyn, Managing Director of Caribbean Insurers LTD, demonstrated the company’s support at the handover ceremony.
Reigning Miss World BVI - Kadia Turnbull was also present for the short presentation and offered her support to the Foundation. Ms Turnbull said: "It is true that the Miss World BVI committee is committed to making a difference and so we are happy to partner with Mi Amor and Have A Heart on this wonderful initiative. Projects such as these are a true reflection of Beauty With A Purpose, which is what we are about."
Meanwhile, the Miss World BVI Organisation will soon be releasing its calendar of activities, Mr Grange told Virgin Islands News Online.
